PSA: Avoid the Scythe for the Empty Grief Challenge in Destiny 2

A dreadful experience

Another Destiny 2 weekly reset means there are more challenges for players to complete. While most of these challenges are extremely straightforward, one is causing players a bit of trouble. Dubbed “Empty Grief,” this challenge tasks players with completing the Grief mission with a Void subclass equipped along with only killing enemies with Void, Kinetic, or Stasis weapons. Even though there was a  Solar version of this challenge last week, some players have been struggling with this challenge as it appears to be bugged at first glance. However, the trick to completing Empty Grief is to ensure that all enemies die to either Void, Kinetic, or Stasis damage.

This means picking up the scythe that spawns halfway through the boss battle and hurting an enemy with it won’t cause this challenge to trigger. Since the scythe deals Solar damage, it’s viewed as a Solar weapon despite not being equipped in your loadout. So when you get to the final boss, just ignore the scythe and kill the enemies with your other weapons. Additionally, it’s wise if you avoid explosive barrels since these also do Solar damage and could count towards not completing this challenge. I also recommend not using exotics such as Vesper of Radius, Dunemarchers, or Khepri’s Horn. These all do either Solar or Arc damage to enemies, which could accidentally kill something and force you to redo the mission.

Just be patient and ensure that every enemy is killed by either a Void, Kinetic, or Stasis weapon while you have a Void subclass equipped. The last thing you want to do is run this challenge multiple times because a random explosive barrel killed a Screeb!
