The Quarry PSA: How to Avoid Spiders & Other Creatures We've Seen

In case you want some spoiler-free warnings for the enemies and dangers in The Quarry.

The Quarry PSA: There are a lot of different dangers lurking in the dark, from recurrent enemies to one-offs that may be quite disturbing if you happen to have a specific phobia. Don’t fret, we’ve been through the night in Supermassive Games’ latest horror game and are here to tell the tale, and hopefully make your own stay in Hackett’s Quarry a far more pleasant one. If you want some spoiler-free warnings of what to expect, I’ll be going through what’s in the game with as little detail as possible, in a similar fashion to our Elden Ring PSA.

In case you’ve skipped the first paragraph, I’ll repeat it once more: It should go without saying that there will be MINOR SPOILERS for The Quarry in this list. I’m going to be separating the actual list with a random image so you hopefully don’t get spoiled if you don’t want to.

In addition, I won’t include any specific images, except for one that serves as a warning, so you can just learn what to expect without worrying about seeing stuff ahead of time, or seeing stuff that may actually scare you. It is a scary game after all. But there are some particular encounters that are unexpected, to say the least. But without further ado, you can find the list below.

The Quarry PSA 2

Spiders

Yeah, there are spiders. In fact, there’s one in the very first chapter of the game (so Chapter 1, not the prologue). This scene is worth noting since it involves both a sequence and cutscene, the latter zooming into the spider for a prolonged time. It’s also quite ugly, and big. You’ve been warned.

If you want to avoid spiders in The Quarry, once you’re playing as Jacob in the first chapter, don’t go to the opposite side of the truck near the fence on the left side of the area. If you see a red bag of chips on the floor, even though it’s humanly tempting to get close, stay away from it.

The Quarry PSA 4
Avoid the red bag of chips here if you don’t want to see a spider.

If for some reason you do end up triggering the event, I didn’t squash the spider and just let it go. I’m unsure of whether or not this prevents from triggering another scene in a later chapter or not, but I didn’t encounter any other spider in my walkthrough by doing this.

Ghosts

Ghosts appear in different forms and are a big part of The Quarry from the get-go. Expect to see them flashing behind characters, inside cars, amidst the trees, and so on.

Werewolves

In case you haven’t guessed it from the trailers, there are werewolves involved as well. They are quite fearsome in terms of their design, so definitely something to keep in mind in case you’re expecting the typical werewolf design. They’re far more human-like with their eyes popping out.

Clowns

Kinda? There is a sequence where a character can wear a clown mask. If you can’t even look at them, keep this in mind. This scene is also in the launch trailer, so probably skip that as well.

There is a Shitton of Gore, Too

This shouldn’t come as a surprise if you read the ESRB rating of the game (which mentions “a character severing a man’s hand with a chainsaw; a creature mauling and decapitating a character; a shotgun blast ripping apart a character’s face. Large blood-splatter effects and dismemberment/decapitation accompany some violent acts.”)

That being said, yeah, it can be quite gruesome, especially with the fidelity of the game’s graphics. Look, I’m not a purist or anything, but it’s worth mentioning as the game tends to center the camera quite often during its most shocking moments. If you tend to be impressed by violence in games, some scenes can be a tough watch, even if you’re used to violent games as I do.
