A new season of content updates, sandbox updates, and even a new Raid will be hitting the game very soon. Unique to the other seasons that are a part of the game’s Annual Pass, most of Season of Opulence is currently shrouded in mystery. But we do know a decent bit about what’s to come, so let’s take a look at what to expect when things get crazy and the new season begins.

What is Season of Opulence? – Destiny 2 Annual Pass Details
Season of Opulence is a new content season as part of the Destiny 2 Annual Pass. Some of the seasonal content will be free content for all players, while other pieces are exclusive to pass owners. Like previous seasons, it will include things like new weapons and gear — but there’s a whole lot more than that.
Check out this road map infographic (below) to see what is included in the season. And bear in mind that the whole Season of Opulence is scheduled to run from June through August.
When is Season of Opulence? – Destiny 2 Annual Pass
You won’t have to wait very long to play the next round of paid content in Destiny 2. Season of Opulence kicks off on June 4, during the usual the weekly reset that Tuesday. The new Raid activity, “Crown of Sorrow,” will begin just six hours later at 7 p.m. Eastern. That’s a big difference from past Raids, which typically release a week or two after their related content. Given that Season of Opulence seems tied to the location of the first Destiny 2 raid — the Leviathan — this might indicate a higher focus on Raid activity with this expansion.
Mystery and Discovery – Destiny 2 Season of Opulence
Season of Opulence is themed around “mystery and player discovery.” Expect more hidden missions, similar to quests like “The Whisper” and “Zero Hour” to pop up unannounced on a random weekday. Destiny 2 has only leaned heavier and heavier into this kind of hidden content as its first Annual Pass has progressed.
“In [Season of Opulence], the focus is really on discovery and subversion and exciting new secrets that we can’t wait for players to discover themselves,” said Bungie production director Justin Truman in the Annual Pass trailer from November.
Another new activity in Opulence is a The Menagerie, a six-player matchmade activity. The fight takes place on an unexplored deck of Calus’s Leviathan ship. A new item called the Chalice of Opulence can be upgraded to “better refine which gear you earn,” and Bungie is promising lots of replayability for the new activity. Outside of that, we don’t know much else just yet.
“Assembling your Chalice of Opulence is just the first step,” says the Season of Opulence page on Bungie’s site. “Calus has crafted a maze of challenges in his lost vaults. Test your strength in the all-new six-player matchmade activity, the Menagerie, and meet his challenges head on to unlock your rewards.”
Finally, Season of Opulence will of course have new Triumphs and Lore books to unlock and read, as well as new Exotic quests for both Lumina (a new hand cannon) and Truth (a Destiny 1 rocket launcher), new armor sets, and gear.
Power Level Increase to 750 – Destiny 2 Season of Opulence
The Destiny 2 Power level cap will increase all the way up to 750 in Season of Opulence. That makes it 50 levels higher than what was possible during Season of the Drifter. This will once again make all weekly challenges and milestones basically irrelevant. The grind to find better gear and level up will be very real indeed.
Speaking of new activities that require higher Power…
New Raid and Returning to the Leviathan – Destiny 2 Season of Opulence
“Seek out the most valuable treasures in the underbelly of the Leviathan,” Bungie teased. “Jump into the new Crown of Sorrow raid and join the chase for World’s First on day one!”
A new Raid looks like it will be the main pull for Season of Opulence — at least at the beginning. We… don’t know much else just yet, other than that it will be available on the same day as the Destiny 2 expansion itself, and that’s the way raids should be. The first Raid encounter will also have a recommended Power level of 715.
Solstice of Heroes – Destiny 2 Season of Opulence
The Destiny 2 seasonal events just keep on coming! And the next one is called Solstice of Heroes, the summer event of the in-game universe. Solstice of Heroes premiered last year as a celebration of victory for Guardians in the year prior, including winning the Red War against Ghaul and the Cabal.
This most recent year… hasn’t been so joyous. It’s been one filled with fictional defeats (like the death of Cayde-6) and controversies (the ongoing struggle between the Vanguard and Drifter). It’ll be interesting to see just what is worth celebrating in this year’s event. 2019’s Solstice of Heroes begins on July 30.
Season of Opulence will feature a bunch of new updates and hidden surprises, so make sure to check back here for more information as it becomes available.
