It’s been a pretty wild week in Destiny 2. Bungie dropped not one, but two surprise quests on players. They also announced the existence of a new raid to launch alongside the upcoming Season of Opulence. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get right into it. Here’s what you need to know about Destiny 2 updates and events for the week of May 13, 2019.

Fallen Transponder and Outbreak Perfected
Last week Bungie dropped the Fallen Transponder quest, which leads players back to the old Tower to obtain the powerful Outbreak Perfected. This is expected to be a time-limited event, as Bungie’s official release video tells us to “get it while we can.” If you haven’t completed the quest yet, our Fallen Transponder guide has all the info you need to get Outbreak Perfected in Destiny 2.
Void Configuration
Players who complete the Zero Hour mission for Outbreak Perfected unlock the Heroic version, which grants the weapon’s catalyst. Completing that opens up another quest involving keycards, puzzles, and SIVA particulate. I’m not going to lie, it sounds needlessly complex and apparently is all to obtain an Exotic ship. But if you want to take it on, our Voice Configuration Quest Guide will help you out.
The Crown of Sorrow Raid
The Season of Opulence begins in Destiny 2 on June 4. And when it does, players will have a brand new raid to take on, the Crown of Sorrow. But there’s a catch — the raid’s recommended power level is 715. Since the current cap is 700, you’ll have to do a bit of grinding to prepare yourself. And don’t think you can game the system by hoarding powerful bounties or gathering Ethereal Keys from existing raids. Powerful bounties from this season will continue to grant level 700 equipment in season 7, and Last Wish and Scourge of the Past will be locked until someone completes the new raid.
The Last Iron Banner of Season 6
Iron Banner is back in Destiny 2 for the last time in season 6.This competitive mode is hosted by Lord Saladin, the last of the Iron Lords. The event stands out from the regular Destiny 2 Crucible in that power level advantages are actually enabled. Defeating opponents with higher levels grants better rewards! Players can also purchase the Iron Burden item from Saladin to reduce the power level of their equipment, or the Wolf’s Favor consumable to increase it.
This is the last Iron Banner of season 6. So if you’re trying for any season-related triumphs, this is your last chance to finish them! And remember: Certain Crucible-based quests progress a little faster in Iron Banner and Competitive mode, like the Exotic hand cannon Thorn.
The Destiny 2 Ascendant Challenge This Week: May 14-21, 2019
This week’s challenge can be found in the Aphelion’s Rest Lost Sector: The Strand. The portal is about halfway through the Sector, right before the last large area where the boss and its corresponding chest are found. Just pop your Tincture of Queensfoil before entering and you can’t miss it.
When you reach the area, you will notice a large central arena surrounded by a number of crystals and big-ass, sword-bearing knights. Avoid the latter like the plague. They’re tough and can chop through you like driftwood.
To finish the challenge, you need to find and destroy four Taken blights that spawn around the outskirts of the area. Pesky, infinite shadow thralls and other enemies will try to slow your progress. So keep moving while you destroy the blights as fast as you can.
Those crystals in the room become vulnerable when all four blights are destroyed. Destroy all the crystals to finish the challenge. A good tip here is to keep your distance and use something like a bow or a scout rifle to pick the objects off from a safe distance. But keep in mind that the knights will continue to chase you around the area. Keep moving and the knights shouldn’t be a problem.
And that’s all you need to do! Keep checking back for more information about Black Armory, Niobe Labs, and more. And of course we’ll have another Ascendant Challenge guide next week. In the meantime, you can read our Destiny 2: Forsaken review for more thoughts on the expansion. Take care!
