Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer is here and it’s time to elevate your fashion game. Along with new weapons, a 6 player activity, armor, story missions, and season pass, the heavily requested armor transmogrification feature is finally arriving. In this season, players will team up with the Fallen Captain Mithrax to stop the Vex from plunging Earth into total darkness. Along with all this new content, players can also experience the Vault of Glass raid for the first time in Destiny 2. The original raid in the base game, Vault of Glass is beloved by many in the community due to its encounter design and loot. Similar to previous Destiny 2 raids, there are also challenges you’ll need to complete if you want the Fatebreaker title.
Here’s how to beat the Templar encounter’s “Out of Its Way” challenge in the Vault of Glass:
(Author’s Note: This guide is written under the assumption that you know the basics of the encounter.)
Out of Its Way Challenge
Perhaps the easiest challenge in the entire raid, all you need to do is complete the Templar encounter without it teleporting once. For many of you, this is basically the strategy you’ve been utilizing since the raid released. The teleport mechanic triggers after the person carrying the shield shatters the Templar’s barrier. This will not only cause the Templar to Detain someone but the boss will attempt to teleport to one of four pre-determined locations. These spots are, top right, to the left by the staircase, back left, and back right near where the center Conflux spawns. You will know the Templar is trying to transport to this area because a big white circle will appear, along with a beam in the air. Standing in this location while the Templar is attempting to warp will deny the teleport and make it stay in the center.
When the challenge begins, designate one person to carry the Relic and two others to help when the Oracles spawn. You will want to have anyone not carrying the Relic to equip Anarchy with the Breach and Clear mod, along with two slug shotguns such as First In, Last Out, and Heritage. Additionally, having a Warlock with Well of Radiance will make this much easier, allowing you to survive the Templar’s attacks during the damage phase. If you do not have Anarchy, using Null Composuer with High Impact Reserves is also a terrific option. It’s just imperative that someone on your team is able to consistently apply the Breach and Clear debuff onto this boss.
Once you have defeated the first wave of Oracles, have the Relic holder break the Templar’s barrier to start the DPS phase. For the five Guardians, your job is simply to damage the boss as fast and as much as possible, while occasionally freeing anyone trapped by the Detain mechanic. It’s up to the Relic holder to deny where the Templar is going to teleport. You will want to hang out somewhere in the middle so you can get a good view of all the potential warp locations. Once you see the area it’s going to teleport appear, quickly dash to that location and stand in it until the circle vanishes. This means you’ve denied where it can go and will remain in the center for everyone to damage.
Typically you will only need to block 2-3 teleports before the Templar is defeated. The only tricky part is if the Relic holder gets detained. You will want to designate someone on the damage team to deal with this if it happens, otherwise, the Templar will most likely teleport. So long as your Relic holder is fast and you’re aware of who’s being detained this should be an easy challenge to complete.
