Destiny 2 Ensemble's Refrain Guide – How to Beat the VoG Atheon Challenge

Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer is here and it’s time to elevate your fashion game. Along with new weapons, a 6 player activity, armor, story missions, and season pass, the heavily requested armor transmogrification feature is finally arriving. In this season, players will team up with the Fallen Captain Mithrax to stop the Vex from plunging Earth into total darkness. Along with all this new content, players can also experience the Vault of Glass raid for the first time in Destiny 2. The original raid in the base game, Vault of Glass is beloved by many in the community due to its encounter design and loot. Similar to previous Destiny 2 raids, there are also challenges you’ll need to complete if you want the Fatebreaker title.

Here’s how to beat the Atheon encounter’s “Ensemble’s Refrain” challenge in the Vault of Glass:

(Author’s Note: This guide is written under the assumption that you know the basics of the encounter.)

Ensemble’s Refrain Challenge

To complete this challenge, every player who is teleported to either Venus or Mars needs to destroy one Oracle in each set of three. Meaning, when the three Oracles appear, each Guardian can only destroy one every time they appear. Because of this, the person carrying the Relic will need to be ready to drop the shield and shoot one of the Oracles. To make this simpler, I recommend everyone runs a sniper rifle (if you are blowing up the Oracles from the back of the room) and always have the Relic carrying take down the third Oracle. It will then be up to the other two Guardians who are teleported to call out if they are taking down the first or second Oracle.

Once the three who have been warped determine a shooting order, keep that same order for all three Oracle sets until you leave to damage Atheon. That’s all you need to do to complete the Ensemble’s Refrain challenge and earn yourself an easy second chest once Atheon is killed. Remember, this will also be the second Vault of Glass Master challenge. So if you want that Timelost weapon you will have to complete this challenge, otherwise, you won’t earn these special variants of the VoG firearms.

More Destiny 2:

If you’re struggling with this challenge, some good weapons to use are Succession, Praedyth’s Revenge, Long Shadow, and Xenophage. All of these can quickly destroy the Oracles at any distance, making it easy to take one out all by yourself. The most important part of this entire challenge is communication and determining who will get which Oracle. Since you never know what combination of players will be pulled in, it’s critical that as you descend the stairs each of the three Guardians claim an Oracle in the sequence.
