Destiny 2 Missive Quest Guide - All Ruinous Effigy Exotic Quest Steps

In teaser materials for the new Destiny 2 Season of Arrivals, Bungie showed off a new exotic trace rifle called Ruinous Effigy. It’s locked behind yet another exotic quest, but the good news is that it’s relatively short and shouldn’t be that difficult to obtain. Even though one step has a decent amount of grinding to it, this is a pretty simple quest when compared to others. Remember, you will need to go through the opening Prismatic Recaster quest you’ve been given each week to even start this quest. So plan accordingly, as this part alone can be ba pretty big time sink.

Missive Quest Steps – Ruinous Effigy

Step 1: Missive – Visit the Prismatic Recaster

To start this mission, just head on over to the Drifter’s area and interact with the Prismatic Recaster.

Visit the Prismatic Recaster in the Annex of the Tower near the Drifter.

“Thing’s making some weird noises. Internal gravity’s all… wrong. Never done that before. Bunch of Dark energy sloshing around… linking up with something on Io. Probably none too safe. Come take a look before it explodes.” —The Drifter

Step 2: Gift – Complete Interference Mission on Io

The Interference mission isn’t anything new. It’s a weekly mission in which the goal rotates. One of these weeks we’ll be asked to do it as part of this quest. While the beginning of these missions is almost always the same, they do alter in some form once you travel to Ascendant Realm. Be prepared for a boss fight (most likely against a large Shrieker), so plan accordingly. These are the same steps you’ve been going through in previous weeks, so you shouldn’t have any issues. For the Umbral Traces, I strongly suggest you focus on Tier III Reckoning, as I was averaging 30-40% a run. Additionally, make sure to stay to the very end of Eris’ dialogue at the end of Interference because you need to pick up an object to progress this exotic quest.

Complete the mission “Interference” on Io.

“Savathûn will not hesitate to disrupt our progress. I call upon your strength once again, Guardian. Lay waste to Savathûn’s forces in the Cradle and open the way.” —Transmission from Eris Morn

Step 3: Pendulum – Collect Calcified Light fragments

You’ll need to traverse the locations that Bungie is removing from Destiny 2 in September and gather 25 Calcified Light fragments. The description says you’ll need to use your Ghost to locate them. You’ll also need to defeat 15 of Savathun’s Marionettes.

You can find Calcified Light on Io, Titan, Mercury, and Mars in the main patrol zones. When you land, pull up your Ghost and look for the white diamonds scattered throughout. These are indicators where to find the Calcified Light. Following the diamonds will lead you right to them, so you shouldn’t have any issue hunting them down. During my hunt for them, I didn’t locate any in Lost Sectors or random, non-patrol zones such as the entrance to the Song of Savathun strike. All of them were out in the open, so make sure to check every patrol zone on each of the named locations.

If you’re hunting on Io, you’ll want to drive around the patrol zone a bit since the Ghost’s detector does have a specific range. For example, I found one tucked away on the far end of Lost Oasis, that I would have missed if I didn’t drive my Sparrow back there. There are 5 on Titan, Mars, Mercury, and 10 of these items on Io.

As for Savathun’s Marionettes, these are a new type of enemy that spawn during either the Contact Public Events or can be found roaming the world. For the Contact event, mine only appeared if we managed to trigger the Heroic modifier and typically spawned alongside the boss. Before you bring down the big bad, focus on the Marionette before he vanishes. I’ve had the most success on Titan, as a Marionette spawns whenever the Taken Blights appear in The Rig and when the forces move against one another.

For more details on Calcified Light or Savathun’s Marionettes make sure to check out our guides.

Collect Calcified Light fragments on Io, Titan, Mars, and Mercury using Ghost’s Nav mode. Defeat Savathûn’s Marionettes on Io and Titan.

Eris believes the Pyramids offer a gift in a form we will understand: weaponry. But the branch seethes with an unstable Darkness.

“Hidden chatter tells of ancient Light bubbling to the surface, coaxed forth by the Pyramid’s reshaping of our worlds. Furthermore, Savathûn’s scouts chase the Pyramid like hungry dogs. She chains their will with ritual and spell-craft. Destroy them. Let the branch consume the Marionettes’ bound essence and stabilize it by consuming calcified fragments. My incantations will coopt Savathûn’s binding ritual and link the Pyramid’s gift to you.” —Transmission from Eris Morn

Step 4: Feed – Defeat targets with Void damage, chain multi-kills, complete Gambit or Reckoning

Now it’s time to feed the weapon with precision multi-kills, Void kills, and completing Gambit or Reckoning. You can pretty much accomplish every task in this quest simultaneously, so break out a weapon like the Gnawing Hunger or Graviton Lance if you’re feeling nostalgic. The latter worked wonders for me, as I was able to accurately pick off any Shadow Thrall on the bridge, letting me chain together precision kills.

I prefer Tier 3 Reckoning here, simply because the enemies are easy to multi-kill and racking up Void kills won’t take that long. You will get 33% per Reckoning Tier 3 clear, so it should only take three runs to completely finish this quest.

Defeat targets with Void damage, chain precision multikills, and complete Gambit or Reckoning.

Higher tiers of Reckoning and defeating invaders/defeats as an invader grant additional progress.

The branch, though tempered and bound, still has a ravenous emptiness at its core. Find power on which it can feed.

“We cannot deny the Pyramid’s power encased within this branch. With it bound through Savathûn’s magic and tempered in Calcified Light, we may safely unleash its potential. Exploit this. Let the branch feed upon the Taken, upon those linked to Darkness by Worm or desperate promise, upon those with hearts of malice. From their ruin, we will cast a new weapon.” –Transmission from Eris Morn

Step 5: Shape – Return to the Umbral Decoder

And after all that’s done, all you have to do is head on back to the bowels of the Tower and get your reward.

Decrypt your Gift at the Umbral Decoder.

The branch is sated and bound within an engram formed from Eris’s incantations. The Gift is ready to take its true shape.

“Touch of Malice serves as a blueprint for this weapon. It was crude, vicious, but what I have made for you here is a thing of beauty. It is a catalyst of change, and nothing it graces will ever remain the same.” –Transmission from Eris Morn

And that’s it! Complete all this and you should have Ruinous Effigy unlocked. Enjoy!
