Destiny 2 Corrupted Key Code Guide - How to Get Corrupted Key Codes

Destiny 2 Season of the Splicer is here and it’s time to elevate your fashion game. Along with new weapons, a 6 player activity, armor, story missions, and season pass, the heavily requested armor transmogrification feature is finally arriving. In this season, players will team up with the Fallen Captain Mithrax to stop the Vex from plunging Earth into total darkness. The main draw for many is the continuation of Destiny 2’s storyline leading up to The Witch Queen expansion early next year. This week saw a big story development and the introduction of a new collectible item tied to the Expunge missions — the Corrupted Key Code.

Update: 6/15/2021

After multiple tests and more reports pouring in from social media, it appears that these drop from any PVE combatant in the game during any activity. People have reported getting them from Nightfalls, Overrides, and Expunges. While I previously only was able to make one appear during a Corrupted Expunge, it appears that they are just very rare. They will drop as a little blue triangle on the ground, so you will need to either manually pick them up or let them go to your Postmaster.

How to Get a Corrupted Key Code

You can get a Corrupted Key Code by killing enemies inside of any Corrupted Expunge mission. This item appears to drop randomly from enemies, as mine was given out from a Taken Psion. It’s a rare item, so you will want to make sure that you kill every enemy that appears throughout the Corrupted Expunge mission. So far, I haven’t been able to get one to drop outside of the Corrupted Expunge mission. One of the best places to hunt for the Corrupted Key Code this week is at the end of the activity during the boss fight. After you break the boss’s invincibility shield, it will spawn a large wave of Taken alongside it. Don’t just instantly kill the boss, instead, focus on clearing out as many of the Taken as possible.

Alternatively, you can find a group of Taken Psions and let them keep replicating over and over again. This will give you a constant swarm of enemies you can shoot and farm this key code from. Once you have a Corrupted Key Code, make your way through the Expunge mission and kill the boss. Once it’s destroyed, approach the chest in the center and open it up to receive a piece of gear and some Decrypted Data.

Destiny 2 Corrupted Key Code

While you cannot increase the drop rate of this item, you can boost the rewards received from the Corrupted Vex Chest at the end. Once you finish the story mission for the first time, return to the H.E.L.M. and speak to the Servitor in the corner. Open up your gauntlet upgrades to reveal that the final column on the right has been released. Upgrading these will increase the quality and number of rewards offered whenever you open the chest. This costs the typical 100, 300, and 500 Decrypted Data prices, so you’ll want to start saving up. Personally, I find the upgrades to be worth the investment since they are guaranteeing high-stat rolls and multiple pieces of loot. This could be a terrific way to farm armor pieces — especially if you need some good armor.

Outside of this, there have been no new changes or quests for players to participate in. However, the Vault of Glass raid challenges have begun, starting with the Wait For It… challenge during the Conflux encounter. If you’re looking to get the Fatebreaker title make sure to hop into Vault of Glass this week!
