Destiny 2 Beyond Light Duality Guide - How to Unlock Duality

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is finally here after months and months of waiting. Acting as the next major chapter in this FPS/RPG hybrid, players will embark on a journey to Europa to battle against a Fallen leader called Eramis and learn more about the true nature of the Darkness. This expansion includes new characters, missions, endgame activities, a subclass, exotics, and enemy types. Of course, the biggest addition is all the new loot that players can hunt down. While there are quite a few legendary weapons and armor pieces available, exotics are always the most exciting. One of these is Duality, a shotgun tied to Destiny 2’s Season of the Hunt Pass, and more than likely the first new exotic the majority of the player base will encounter.

How to Unlock Duality

Currently, the only way to unlock Duality is via the Season Pass. Just like previous seasons, players can obtain a free exotic weapon at Level 1 to get them started. This season’s is Duality, which is a shotgun with two different firing modes. When you load up Beyond Light, scroll over to your Season Pass tab and then select the shining package icon on the rewards track. This will unlock a new set of armor for you to wear along with the Duality. This weapon cannot be obtained any other way, so don’t expect to see it tied to a quest or drop from exotic engrams. Your only method for obtaining it is the Season Pass, so make sure to pick yours up when you load in. Additionally, there is a weapon ornament for this gun at Rank 100.

Similar to previous Season Pass weapons, we expect this gun to enter the new Monument of Lost Lights tower kiosk. This is where players can purchase old exotics from past seasons or raid content by using Exotic Ciphers, Ascendant Shards, or other crafting materials. Bungie has not commented on when the Duality will enter this vault, but anyone who is playing Beyond Light shouldn’t worry since this weapon will be available right away.

For the unfamiliar, the Duality is a shotgun that can fire both pellets and slug rounds depending on how you use it. When shooting from the hip, this weapon will fire a horizontal spread of pellets similar to most shotguns in Destiny 2. However, when you ADS (aim down sights), you’ll fire a high damage, accurate slug round instead. This weapon’s secondary perk is called On Black Wings, which serves as a way to increase your weapon’s precision damage and reload speed. Whenever you land final blows with the hipfire firing mode you will gain stacks making your slug rounds far more deadly. Once you have this buff, landing precision hits will extend its duration.

This makes the Duality a versatile weapon that’s capable of decimating your average rank-and-file foes along with major-tier enemies. So long as you can consistently land precision hits with the slug round, you shouldn’t have any issues with the majority of enemies. That being said, I am not sure if I see the Duality becoming a staple endgame activities unless the Deep Stone Crypt raid features bosses that we can damage at point-blank range. But, that doesn’t mean we cannot enjoy or use such a unique exotic weapon!
