Scout Rifles have had a rough time in Destiny 2. They’ve been outshined by just about every other weapon type out there. Faithful users have stuck around and finally been rewarded in the last few months with some of the best available options ever released. But which scout rifles are the best in Destiny 2? We examined all of the available options and weighed their usefulness in both PVP and PVE and put together some recommendations.

Destiny 2 Best Exotic Scout Rifles
Symmetry
Scout Rifles have never really been that great anywhere unless it was the Momentum Control in Crucible. Symmetry, however, looks like it might just be in the meta thanks to its perks. Not only is it full auto, but precision hits build up Arc Seeker charges. When you finally swap over to that mode by holding reload, these seekers track enemies and deal extra damage. They’re really good at clearing yellow bar adds or for when you’re invading the opposing team.
Symmetry is one of only two scout rifles which we can endorse for all game play modes.
Great For: PVP, PVE, Gambit
MIDA Multi-Tool
MIDA is easily the lowest ranked scout rifle in this entire list largely thanks to so few Guardians using it in PVE. Plenty of players equip it to help with the Randy’s Throwing Knife grind, but we’re definitely at the point where we’d recommend Symmetry over this. While it does have active radar and boosted movement speed, those just can’t overcome Symmetry in any game mode.
Great For: PVP, Gambit
Okay For: PVE
Destiny 2 Best Legendary Scout Rifles
Randy’s Throwing Knife
This Season of the Undying Crucible ritual weapon requires a significant number of scout rifle final blows in Crucible. Is that worth it? The numbers say yes if you’re a scout rifle fan. It’s one of the three most popular weapons in quickplay PVP and sneaks into the top ten PVE guns. Though it may not be the most competitive choice, Randy’s is quick and fantastic at mid-range encounters.
Great For: PVP, PVE, Gambit
Patron of the Lost Causes
And finally we have Patron of the Lost Causes. This new Timelost weapon is the best available legendary scout rifle that isn’t locked behind a quest of some sort. It’s essentially the opposite of MIDA Multi-Tool, pretty good in PVE, but just okay in PVP, especially in a competitive setting. Until you get your hands on Randy’s Throwing Knife, stick with Patron.
Great For: PVE
Good For: PVP, Gambit
