Destiny 2’s Season of the Hunt has officially begun, so it’s time to join Spider, Osiris, and Uldren Sov (now called the Crow) as they battle against the Hive’s corruptive forces. Taking a cue from the Monster Hunter franchise, players will need to construct lures, attack, track, and kill various enemies infesting the Tangled Shore. Along with hunting enemies, you will be able to earn new weapons to add to your arsenal. Perhaps the most interesting is the Deafening Whisper breech-loading grenade launcher. Part of the wave frame archetype, this weapon fires a massive wave of void energy instead of just a single blast. This makes it highly coveted, as these are premiere for clearing large groups of shielded enemies quickly.
Here’s how to earn the Deafening Whisper and what the god roll is:
How to Get the Deafening Whisper
You can earn the Deafening Whisper from Crow rank-up packages or by completing Wrathborn Hunts with any Prey Lure that lists this weapon as a reward. At the time of writing this, you will only have four options for bosses to hunt and what they award is randomized after each completion. This means you won’t always have a chance to earn the Deafening Whisper when participating in a Wrathborn Hunt. However, when this weapon does appear you can narrow down what perks you want via different trophy mods. These are earned by either purchasing them from Crow or completing various activities throughout Destiny 2. We suspect once the season gets going, you’ll have more opportunities and options for farming this grenade launcher.
Deafening Whisper PVE God Roll
- Countermass or Volatile Launch
- High-Velocity Rounds
- Ambitious Assassin
- Wellspring or Rampage
Before we get into the PVE roll of this gun, we should note that we won’t be including a PVP god roll. This is because, when it comes to grenade launchers this isn’t a great option unless you’re on specific maps. The wave frame archetype is specifically great at clearing mobs, not opposing Guardians. If you do want a PVP grenade launcher, consider farming for a Truthteller with Disruption Break.
To start, you will want either Countermass or Volatile Launch for your first spot. Countermass gives us way better recoil control, stability, and handling which is always nice when using this weapon multiple times at once. That being said, if you plan to only swap to this weapon for a single shot or two then Volatile Launch is the superior choice. Sure, you take a hit to handling and velocity, but this perk also gives you a bigger blast radius which is great for a wave frame weapon. Additionally, we are going with High-Velocity Rounds since your only other option is Implosion Rounds — which kinda suck.
Here’s where things get exciting, as the Deafening Whisper can roll with Ambitious Assassin. Since you will often kill 3-4 enemies per shot, Ambitious Assassin will almost always trigger. This makes Deafening Whisper incredibly useful for taking down large groups of enemies and combos perfectly with both of our second perk choices. Wellspring is the ideal roll, as the wave frame allows you to quickly regain energy for your abilities since you’re slaying a ton of enemies at once. However, if you prefer raw stopping power then look for a roll with Rampage. You can easily hit max Rampage stacks in a single shot, giving this launcher some serious lethality.
If you’re going to farm any weapon during this seasonal activity, this is the one you should go for.
