It’s not Thursday, but Bungie is ready to talk about what’s coming down the Destiny 2 pipeline. The developer released a gameplay calendar, detailing specifics from each of its three upcoming seasons. It also shared a new ViDoc and laid out exactly when each piece of Black Armory content is going live.
There’s a lot to process if you’re a Destiny 2 player. We’ve examined all of today’s news to highlight the biggest reasons to be excited about the next two months.
1. New Power Caps to Chase
At its most basic level, Destiny 2 is about maximizing your guardian’s power. With the original Destiny, power level increases were exclusively reserved for expansions. We got a few in the first year before going nearly 365 days before the next arrived with Rise of Iron.
With Destiny 2, Bungie is shaking things up. While Year 1 has matched the old power curve pretty well, Year 2 will be different. Those who own Forsaken will get three additional 50-power bumps with each season. They’re coming in December, March, and June.
2. A New Raid Lair
We don’t really know much about the Black Armory’s raid experience. We do know what the raid armor sets look like, however. And we know the raid lair is called Scourge of the Past. Finally, the raid will land on Dec. 7. See you then!
3. New Weapon Mods and Updated Weapon Perks
Hidden away in the latest Bungie ViDoc is a mention of new weapon mods. Bungie showed off just a few of these, which seem tailor made to give players more options. Have a favorite gun with Dragonfly? Now you can work to get the mod and make it even better.
- Quick Access Sling: Swap weapons much faster for a short duration after emptying the magazine.
- Surrounded Spec: Increases the damage granted by Surrounded. Bonus damage lingers for a brief time when no longer surrounded by three or more enemies.
- Dragonfly Spec: Increases the radius and damage of Dragonfly.
- Rampage Spec: Increases the duration of Rampage.
- Sprint Grip: Temporarily increases the weapon’s ready speed and aim down sights speed after sprinting.
- Radar Booster: Slightly increases the range at which radar detects enemies.
The latest weapons will also have more variance. Alongside new perks, weapons will have more perks in each column. Bungie showed an example, which had one additional weapon perk in the first two columns. It’s honestly not much, but it means that weapons can be more flexible and makes it easier to get the god rolls your chasing.
4. New Exotics
The Black Armory comes with five new Exotics.
There’s Izanagi’s Burden, a sniper rifle with a four-shot magazine. Hold down the reload button, however, and it consumes the entire mag to create a single, overpowered shot. That bullet with have increased range and so much damage that it’s a one-shot-kill body shot.
Then there’s Le Monarque, a bow that feels similar to Thorn. A perfect draw will cause the arrow to deal damage over time. Land a precision hit with that perfect draw and it’ll send out a Void cloud that gives all nearby enemies that periodic poison damage.
The ViDoc mentioned an Exotic fusion rifle, as well. It shoots fireballs that set the ground ablaze and have active tracking.
On Jan. 29, an all-new Exotic Quest called “The Draw” goes live. It seems like this will be similar to what we experienced with Thunderlord and The Lost Cryptarch so consider us excited. Rumors point to it being The Last Word.
5. More Reasons to Return Each Week
If you’re a hardcore Destiny player, you know the struggle of not having enough to do each week. While Bungie has certainly upped the number of weekly and daily activities with Forsaken, Black Armory kicks off more meaningful events.
The Volundr Forge goes live on Dec. 4. Three days later the Gofannon Forge and new raid will hit servers. Wait a week and The Dawning event will arrive. Wait another and the Izanimi Forge will open up to your weapon forging efforts.
Things slow down a bit as we head into January, before the return of Crimson Days in February. That’s Destiny’s Valentine’s Day themed event. And, if this year’s Festival of the Lost was any indication, it ought to have some nice new gear and activities attached.
The Season of the Drifter will arrive in March and restart this entire cycle. Hope you’re prepared!
