I’ve gotten surprisingly into Trials of Osiris over the last few weeks, as the new Freelance playlist in Destiny 2 has made it more accessible than ever. As a result, I’ve been accumulating a lot of neat gear, and I’m looking forward to snagging some of the new armor and weapons that are coming next season. As it turns out, I won’t have to wait long, thanks to this trick from Misleading on YouTube.
Trials Engrams work like any other vendor in Destiny 2 — you accumulate them from raising your rank in Trials matches, and Saint-14 holds onto them until you collect them. Normally, vendors reset at the end of a season, meaning that any uncollected engrams are forfeit. However, Trials Engrams behave a little differently than run of the mill Legendary Engrams. Instead, they act like Umbral Engrams, which can either be opened for a random reward or focused at the appropriate vendor — which seems to be the direction that Bungie is taking the loot system in Destiny 2 generally.
What that means is that you can transfer up to ten Trials engrams per character across seasons. Once the new season drops, you can then hit up Master Rahool in the Tower to decode the engrams. You’re not guaranteed to get new gear since Rahool’s results are random, but with ten engrams there’s a pretty good chance you’ll get at least one drop of the new weapons. You could potentially do this across three characters, meaning you could open thirty Trials engrams before there’s even a single Trials of Osiris tournament this season. And since there won’t be one until June 10, that’s a pretty big head start on collecting new loot.
Personally, I’m eyeing that new Warlock armor — and I might even have to hop on my Hunter alt to get that sweet monkey-themed outfit, too. What do you think about the new Trials gear? Have Bungie’s Freelance experiments and tweaks to Trials gotten you to dip your toes into the mode? Let me know in the comments. In any case, don’t forget to clear out all of your vendor engrams — including Saint-14 — before the seasonal reset tomorrow. Otherwise, those engrams will be lost, like tears in rain after a particularly salty Trials match.
