This Week in Destiny 2: Events, Updates, Ascendant Challenge - April 22, 2019

Hey guardians! Wondering what’s up in Destiny 2 this week? Well, ol’ Drifter’s got the details for you. Spring is in full swing and Saladin’s back for some Iron Banner, but the devil is, as they say, in the details. So let’s go ahead and take a look at everything that’s new in Destiny 2 this week!

The Revelry Continues in Destiny 2 — With a Couple of Catches

This is the seasonal Destiny 2 Revelry event, in which guardians can traverse the Verdant Forest for new triumphs, equipment, and decorations. But as you frolic and play in the spring air, there are two things you might want to take note of.

First, Bungie has disabled one effect of the event — orb generation on precision kills — for Raids, Gambit, Gambit Prime, and Competitive Crucible in order to deal with a bug. What this means is that the Verdant Competitive triumph, previously attainable through orb generation in Gambit, is now only available in quickplay Crucible to Destiny 2 players. We’re not sure whether Bungie is going to take action on the triumph to make it easier to attain. In the meantime, good luck getting those precision kills while the grenades are flying!

Oh, and you might want to ease up on grinding for those neat glowing antler ornaments that can drop from Revelry boxes. As it turns out, they’re only visible during the Revelry event itself. Not great!

The Return of Iron Banner in Destiny 2

As we enter the last week of the month, Iron Banner is back in Destiny 2. This competitive mode is hosted by Lord Saladin, the last of the Iron Lords. The event stands out from the regular Destiny 2 Crucible in that power level advantages are actually enabled. Defeating opponents with higher levels grants better rewards! Players can also purchase the Iron Burden item from Saladin to reduce the power level of their equipment, or the Wolf’s Favor consumable to increase it.

This is the first Iron Banner event since Bungie nerfed Spectral Blades, so if you’ve been avoiding Crucible for fear of that super ability, now’s a great time to jump back in.

And remember: Certain Crucible-based quests progress a little faster in Iron Banner and Competitive mode, like the Exotic hand cannon Thorn.

Xur Has Good Things For Sale, Stranger

If you haven’t hit up Xur in the Winding Cove of the EDZ yet, you’re going to want to do that. He’s selling the Wardcliff Coil, one of the best PVP weapons in the game. It’s also just a hell of a lot of fun to use.

Not only that, he’s also got the Lunafaction Boots for Warlocks. These are without a doubt one of the best Warlock Exotics in Destiny 2. When equipped, your rifts automatically refill yours and your allies’ ammo from reserves. If you have, say, The Last Word, that means you can pop off an Empowering Rift, then fan the hammer for as long as your rift lasts. It feels good. Trust.

The Destiny 2 Ascendant Challenge: April 23, 2019

The Destiny 2 Ascendant Challenge this week is the Keep of Honed Edges. The portal is a bit tricky to reach. It’s found in the secluded undercity area called, appropriately enough, Harbinger’s Seclude. Go to Rheasilvia and move to the northern section of the zone — the big entry hall. Enter here, follow the hallway, and take a right.

Keep going down the hallway until you find a wide open area. This is the same place you would normally go to trade with Huginn and Munnin. Except you want to go forward, towards the big pier at the end of the circular room. Head to the end of the ledge and pop your Tincture of Queensfoil. The portal is above you, on top of a statue that’s well out of reach. While facing the statue (still standing on the bridge), turn right to reveal a normally invisible series of platforms. Follow them to reach the portal.

Once inside, head towards the well-lit main area. You will find three wizards and three knights surrounding a sword. Kill the wizards to release the sword. You can grab it as soon as the wizards are dead, but get ready to move. More Taken will continuously spawn. It’s best to have a friend or two deal with them while the swordbearer focuses on the knights. Killing weaker enemies with the sword charges its super faster, but the weapon only lasts so long before it expires.

Circle the room, using the sword’s heavy attack to stagger and damage the knights, while trying to isolate them from one another. Once they’re all dead a new message will appear on the bottom-left of your screen, saying “Toland beckons you.” Toland is the (mostly) disembodied voice that guides you in the Ascendant Realm. Now you can find him in the middle of the room as a floating white spark.

Toland wants the swordbearer to follow him through a jumping puzzle. So make your way across the large chasm while jumping from platform to platform. Time your jumps to avoid the floating debris. It will knock you down to your death. Enemies will also spawn on various platforms. Kill them quickly or have your fireteam snipe them. Then you can keep moving. Some of the platforms will disintegrate after you touch them, too. Once you make it to the end, loot the chest and get the hell out of there.

And that’s all for This Week in Destiny 2! Make sure to check back next week for more information. There’s always plenty of ground to cover. Take care!
