This Week at Bungie just dropped, and it has some interesting discussion around the state of Solar 3.0 in Destiny 2. Bungie seems aware that the recently-released Solar 3.0 hasn’t entirely lived up to expectations, and is making a few tweaks to Warlock and Titan abilities. Personally, as a Warlock main I haven’t had too many issues with Solar 3.0, but I can see how people might see it as a little underwhelming compared to the changes we had to Void last season. Thankfully, some changes to the Warlock’s kit are going to open back up some of the things the class lost in the shift.
The main issue with Dawnblades under Solar 3.0 was that they lost a lot of their healing flexibility. Yes, we’ve got a dedicated Healing Grenade now, but using it means you lose out on using your grenades as, well, grenades. A change to the Heat Rises aspect will now allow Dawnblades to release a burst of Cure x2 that heals them and their nearby allies. This stacks with Healing Grenades, increasing the buff to Curex3. And if you’ve got Touch of Flame on as well, it’ll provide Restoration. Meanwhile, Icarus Dash will now grant you the Cure effect when you rapidly defeat targets with your Super or any weapon while airborne.
Celestial Fire is getting a little buff too, albeit one not directly related to healing — each projectile will now apply 10 Scorch stacks. Will that make it a little more popular versus the newer, sexier Fullmetal Alchemist-inspired flame snap? That remains to be seen.
These changes don’t do anything to address the issues some Warlock players have with Bungie splitting Heat Rises and Icarus Dash into separate aspects, but Bungie developers have said that combining the two back into their original state is not on the table. That’s kind of a shame, since it means Warlocks are basically committed to using either Heat Rises/Touch of Flame or Heat Rises/Icarus Dash — the combination of Heat Rises and Touch of Flame doesn’t make much sense for most circumstances.
Still, it’s nice that Warlocks are getting a bit of our healing chops back. Don’t expect any further balance changes until later in the season, since the TWAB says that Bungie is trying to balance addressing feedback with not overworking their team. What do you think of the changes? Let me know in the comments.
