Destiny Will Soon Be One Step Closer to Matching Destiny Item Manager

Starting in Season 23, Destiny 2 players can conveniently access their Vaults from orbit.

Bungie’s latest This Week In Destiny blog post dropped major news. Starting in Season 23, players can conveniently access their Vaults from orbit. This is a huge quality-of-life change that will bring Destiny 2 one step closer to the utility offered by its third-party companion site, Destiny Item Manager.

The Vault being accessible from orbit benefits players since it allows them to grab weapons and armor pieces they need for certain activities in-game. Players in orbit strategizing endgame content or switching between PVE and PVP activities won’t have to return to the Tower or rely on DIM and the Destiny Companion app. It’s one less step players need to take to in between activities.

Since the early days of Destiny, players have become dependent on external applications. Despite DIM being a third-party app, it offers a wider range of services than the game or its Companion app. It helps with seeing and transferring items from inventories, the Vault or the Postmaster, and lets players find specific items in the inventory with the search bar. Moreover, players can create and save individual loadouts — which can be shared with others and used to compare loot and armor stats. That being said, Bungie added a loadout system with the launch of Destiny 2: Lightfall, but it still falls short of the offerings players get with DIM.

Additionally, third-party sites and the Companion app help Destiny 2 players find fireteams to play with, but in The Final Shape showcase, Bungie announced that an in-game LFG node is in the works.

In the TWID, Bungie hinted that it may add more ways to access the Vault in-game in the future and asked players for their feedback about this change. Alongside the Vault changes, the blog discussed ways the developer will modify Ghost mods and Master Rahool’s material costs in Season 23.
