Destiny 2 Streamers Rejoice, No Flawless Pool in Trials this Weekend

A bug is preventing matchmaking based on wins in the PVP mode

A while back, Destiny 2 introduced the concept of the “Flawless pool” for the Trials of Osiris PVP mode. Essentially, this feature shunts anyone who has “gone Flawless” (won seven consecutive games) into their own matchmaking pool on Sunday, which grants additional postgame rewards. The main purpose of the Flawless pool, though, is to get some of the top players out of the general matchmaking ecosystem in order to ease things up for other Trials players.

However, a Tweet by the Bungie Help account today noted that Destiny 2 currently has an issue preventing Trials of Osiris from matchmaking based on win count. That means that the Flawless pool won’t be activated on Sunday. And that means that all weekend, players will be put into matches regardless of their win count.

The Flawless pool has been a controversial addition to Destiny 2. Bungie and some players seem to feel that it makes Trials less intimidating by ensuring that less-skilled players aren’t put up against some of the sweatiest Guardians in the system. Others, however, note that smaller matchmaking pools can lead to a worse experience for the players put into them. And, of course, some PVP players just don’t want to admit that they love going up against inexperienced opponents, especially if they can broadcast their stomps on Twitch. (I choose to believe that this last group is actually a very small proportion of all Destiny 2 players.)

For this weekend at least, it doesn’t matter how you feel — the Flawless pool is out. That, combined with the fact that the Freelance playlist hasn’t made a return for the first Trials of Osiris of Destiny 2’s Season of the Haunted means that I’m probably going to avoid the mode for now. Anyway, I already have the armor, so I can wait.
