Destiny 2 Still Suffering From Error Codes Days After DDoS Attack

Destiny 2 servers were the target of a DDoS attack, and days later, players are still facing server issues.

The Bungie Help account tweeted that Destiny 2 servers were the target of a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack — an ill-intentioned attempt to disrupt specific services — causing disconnects and several error codes. Days later, players are still facing server issues.

Bungie was transparent last week, saying that the spike in error codes was a result of DDoS and not the weapon crafting glitch that was getting patched. "While we typically don't confirm these types of attacks and do not plan to in the future for general game security reasons, we believe it's the right thing to do for our players to communicate the added pressure to our systems given recent circumstances," the developer added. Since then, Bungie has not provided an update on the DDos attack, but on September 26, the Bungie Help account told players that it's investigating error codes again.

Also, Bungie has not yet said whether the ongoing server issues are related to last week's DDoS attack or if it's because of something else. Still, the spike in error codes and frequent server issues haven't gone unnoticed these past few months. In June, a This Week in Destiny post addressed the rise in error codes due to its "Claims" service, and the developer noted changes to improve game stability in Season 22 and Season 23. Unstable servers have been a constant problem since the launch of Destiny 2: Lightfall, creating messy update days. Even the Tuesday weekly reset would bring the game down for emergency maintenance, but the developer planned to combat that with scheduled downtime

With Destiny 2: The Final Shape expansion around the corner, server issues reducing game performance, and even making the game unplayable at times, are concerning. Although players can't do much about backend issues, it's good to know what the most common error codes mean and see which ones you can troubleshoot.
