Who would have thought that a sword would be the premiere boss DPS weapon in Destiny 2? In a game where virtually every boss possesses a stomp mechanic, closing the gap to effectively attack an enemy was quite tricky. This was only enhanced by the rise of burst damage weapons such as Izanagi’s Burden, Wendigo, and Xenophage. Yet, thanks to the previous sword buff and some recent nerfs, the Falling Guillotine sword has quickly skyrocketed in popularity due to its sheer stopping power. It also helps that this weapon is extremely effective in the new Prophecy dungeon, which is Destiny 2’s latest endgame activity.
Here’s what you need to know about acquiring one and what the god roll is.
How to Get the Falling Guillotine
To unlock the Falling Guillotine you will need to reach Rank 30 in your Season Pass. Once this happens you’ll be given a free version of the weapon with a static roll. However, to get random rolls of this sword you’ll need to progress all the way to Rank 45 in the Season Pass. This is because you’ll need to decrypt the Arrival-Focused Umbral Engram which is only unlocked after you’ve acquired the Season Pass versions of Cold Denial and Falling Guillotine. Once this requirement is met, you can start focusing your Arrival-Focused Umbral Engrams to farm for this weapon.
Since you’ll either get a Falling Guillotine or a Cold Denial, this is the best method for farming this weapon. Thew only drawback is you’ll need 100 Altered Energy per engram, so make sure to do those Daily Bounties and the weekly story mission. You can also get the Guillotine from the first row’s Pyramid-Focused Umbral Engrams, but the weapon pool is much larger which will limit your chances.
Falling Guillotine God Roll
- Honed Edge or Tempered Edge
- Swordmaster’s Guard
- Relentless Strikes
- Whirlwind Blade
For this god roll, we are focusing solely on the PVE side of the game since this is what the Falling Guillotine excels at. If you really want to use a sword in Crucible we recommend either Black Talon or Temptation’s Hook since they have a ranged attack. In the first column, we recommend using either Honed Edge or Tempered Edge to boost the overall damage of this weapon. Personally, I prefer Honed Edge since Relentless Strikes helps us regain am, but don’t feel bad if you get Tempered Edge.
As for the second column, I really like Swordmaster’s Guard since it increases the charge time at the cost of defense. Since you’ll typically be attacking in a Ward of Dawn or Well of Radiance, your general defense isn’t that important. Our first perk is Relentless Strikes which returns ammo after you land three light-attacks, which combos perfectly with the second perk Whirlwind Blade. While some may prefer Surrounded, I really like Whirlwind Blade since it not only boosts our spin attack’s damage but synergizes with the rest of the sword’s perks. Given how small the actual perk pool is for the Falling Guillotine, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll get this roll with only minimal grinding.
If you’re a serious PVE player I cannot recommend enough how strong the Falling Guillotine is. Unless it gets nerfed, this will be a key weapon to possess going into Beyond Light.
