When playing Destiny 2, Bungie's several error codes can interrupt your game. At times, there are steps you can take to fix the issue. One of those error codes is "MARMOT," which occurs when game files for Destiny 2 become corrupted.
The Bungie Help page says that those corrupted files will "need to be repaired or verified." So here are some steps you can take to fix game files on each platform. Before taking the following steps, make sure to exit out of Destiny 2 on the platform you're trying to repair.
How to Fix Error Code Marmot
For those who play on Steam, leave Destiny 2 and go to the Steam Library page. From there, right-click on Destiny 2 and access the game's Properties, then head to the Local Files. After you choose the "Verify Integrity of Game Files," restart the game. If that doesn't work, visit Bungie Help. For those using the Epic Games store, right-click on Destiny 2 from the Games Library. Click on Manage, then Verify, and try restarting the game. Also, Bungie says that players can uninstall and download Destiny 2 if these steps do not fix Error Code Marmot.
The steps vary for PlayStation and Xbox consoles. First, clear the cache and restart both your console and Destiny 2. You can also try to dig a little deeper and take additional steps to fix error code Marmot. Xbox One and Series X|S players can go to the Devices and Connections option in settings and click Blue-ray. Go to the Persistent Storage option and clear it. PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles require a bit more care. By holding the power button, place your PlayStation on Safe Mode. Bungie explains that you can hold the power button for seven seconds until the console beeps twice. By using the connected controller during Safe Mode, click on the Rebuild Database option to fix the error code. Bungie reassures that performing this step will not delete files on your console.
According to the Bungie Help page, error code Marmot could mean that the corrupted hard drive needs a factory reset on consoles. Though it is possible that resetting may remove everything from the hard drive if players do not select the option to keep games, so only take this step if it's your last option.
