Destiny 2: Beyond Light is finally here after months and months of waiting. Acting as the next major chapter in this FPS/RPG hybrid, players will embark on a journey to Europa to battle against a Fallen leader called Eramis and learn more about the true nature of the Darkness. This expansion includes new characters, missions, endgame activities, weapons, exotics, and enemy types. Similar to previous expansions, players can attempt the new Deep Stone Crypt raid to earn loot and a new title. To obtain the latter, you’ll need to complete all the triumphs including the raid challenges. Today marks the final raid challenge’s release and is exactly what a lot of the community thought it would be.
Here’s how to complete The Core Four raid challenge in the Deep Stone Crypt:
(Author’s Note: We will be covering this under the assumption you know how to complete the base encounter and what each role is supposed to actually do.)
The Core Four Challenge
Okay, so this week’s challenge is definitely the easiest of the group. For The Core Four challenge, you just need to deposit four cores instead of two each time Taniks’ orange thrusters are destroyable. This is remarkably easy — especially if you have multiple Warlocks on your team. Since you’ll need to break all four cores at once, having a top tree Nova Bomb can really help shatter all of Taniks’ thrusters before he closes them. Otherwise, just hit him with Anarchy and use slug shotguns to break open any remaining thrusters.
If you are unfamiliar with this popular method, what you will need to do is dive your team into three groups. A Suppressor, Operator, and four people designated to carry cores. Scanner is actually not needed, as you will be depositing the four receptacles not guarded by Taniks. So if Taniks is at the “orange” quadrant, then you will deposit one core in each device at spawn and white. This means you will not have time to swap with a partner, so speed is key here. Because of this, I recommend upping your Mobility stat to ensure you can run fast with the core.
Once Taniks’ thrusters become breakable, shatter all four with a mix of Supers and weapon damage until the four cores drop. Have each person grab one and run to a receptacle, while the Suppressor quickly shoots Taniks to stun him. During this, the Operator will need to quickly free anyone who is trapped by Taniks’ purple cage. After you deposit all four cores, meet up for the damage phase.
Doing this method will extend Taniks’ damage phase, allowing you to potentially kill him right away. I recommend using Anarchy and slug shotguns in conjunction with Divinity. However, if you don’t own Anarchy, Clkoudstrike, Izanagi’s Burden, and Xenophage are all solid alternatives. If you don’t kill Taniks, you’ll need to repeat this method again until he is defeated.
This challenge is all about speed and being able to optimize your damage phase. Divinity, a Titan bubble, and Warlock well should be must-haves for your group. If you have the right weapons, and no one dies during the damage phase, you should be able to kill Taniks before a second core phase begins.
