Savathun is finally here, which means Destiny 2’s highly anticipated expansion has been released. The Witch Queen has players finally confront one of the franchise’s most popular villains in her own throne world. Not only is this DLC introducing a new story, but there are also a ton of new weapons, armor, exotics, consumables, and activities for players to participate in. The Witch Queen also marks the release of the Void 3.0 update, which drastically reworks the void subclass and new exotics to build around.
Along with all this expansion, there’s a new crop of Nightfall weapons for players to grind for. One of the best is Silicon Neuroma, a strong PVE sniper rifle that can roll with some terrific perks. Despite being tied solely to this Vanguard activity, it’s absolutely worth grinding for even if you’re a PVP player since it can get some pretty solid rolls for those who prefer the Crucible. Here’s how to get this aggressive frame sniper and what the best perks are:
How to Get Silicon Neuroma
Silicon Neuroma is solely tied to the Nightfall activity. Yet, it’s not as simple as playing the Nightfall activity until one drops. Weapons specifically tied to this activity rotate in availability every week. This means there will be some weeks when you cannot get Silicon Neuroma, and some when you can. I strongly recommend using the website TodayInDestiny, as it will show you what Nightfall guns are available by clicking on the Nightfall image box.
Additionally, the difficulty of the Nightfall will determine the drop rate for this gun. This means that if you play on the Adept difficulty, you’ll have a much slimmer chance of obtaining a Duty Bound than if you complete a Master Nightfall. Below are all the Nightfall difficulty options and the rarity of the weapons tied to it:
- Adept – Rare
- Hero – Uncommon
- Legend – Common
- Master – Common
- Grandmaster – Common (Adept Variants Only)
Keep in mind that if you want the Adept variant of Silicon Neuroma, you need to play the Grandmaster version when this gun is available. If this sounds like you’ll be jumping through a lot of hoops, you kind of are. It’s not a terribly eloquent system, but it’s the only way to earn this gun. At the time of writing this article, you cannot craft the Silicon Neuroma since no gun patterns exist for it. You are entirely reliant on RNG for getting a “god roll.”

When it comes to the PVE god roll of Silicon Neuroma, we are looking for a very specific roll, which makes things simple. First off, you’ll want Arrowhead Brake, which not only gives a huge boost to recoil but also improves handling, allowing you to swap to this gun faster. While this may not sound important, being able to quickly bring out your sniper rifle is great for damaging bosses. As for the magazine, I recommend Appended Mag for an extra round, which works nicely with your primary perks.
The first primary perk is Triple Tap. This is a premiere PVE sniper perk that lets you deal more damage to a target without reloading. It has the added benefit of synergizing wonderfully with your final perk, Firing Line. Given you will almost always use this gun while standing beside your fireteam, it’s very easy to trigger in endgame activities like raids or Grandmaster Nightfalls. If you’re more of a solo player, Focused Fury is another solid option; however, you will only be able to get a damage boost for the final two bullets, which isn’t ideal.

Unsurprisingly, the PVP god roll is pretty straightforward in terms of what perks you’ll want and what they do. To start, Hammer-Forged Rifling provides +9 to the range. This ensures you can always secure kills from afar and can easily win sniper duels against opponents. Ricochet Rounds provide a minor bump to the range and improve stability, making it much easier to stay on target after firing a round. Alternatively, you can go with High-Caliber Rounds if you want your opponent to flinch a bit more when they’re hit.
Finally, go for the primary perk wombo-combo of Snapshot Sights and Opening Shot. The former dramatically increases aim-down sights speed while the latter increases the accuracy of the first round fired. This makes the Silicon Neuroma terrifyingly consistent, as you can quickly acquire a target and ensure your first shot is as accurate as possible. I strongly recommend this roll if you’re looking to bring this weapon into any PVP game mode.
