While only those who purchased the Destiny 2: Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack can access the dungeon to unlock Gjallarhorn, anyone and everyone can earn Forerunner, styled after the pistol from Halo. All you need to do is complete the Magnum Opus quest, which thankfully won’t take too long and isn’t difficult in the slightest. Here’s how to unlock Forerunner by completing its exotic quest.
When you first log in, Xur will drag you into the new Dares of Eternity six-player activity. Complete this and then return to orbit — it’s from here that our guide picks up.

1. Pick Up the Quest From Xur
Head to Eternity and meet up with Xur. He’ll ask you to use one of your keys to open a nearby chest. Upon returning to him, he’ll give you the quest Magnum Opus, which rewards Forerunner.
2. Collect Seven Strange Coins
Time to run Dares of Eternity a bunch. Keep doing so until you’ve manage to put together seven Strange Coins then bring them back to Starhorse.
3. Complete Starhorse Bounties
Hopefully you haven’t already done today’s bounties; if so, just grab a few. Keep in mind that these cost Strange Coins to purchase, so pick carefully. You should only need to do three to five, but you do get extra progress for more difficult ones.
4. Reach Strange Favor Rank Brave
Do everything you can to increase your reputation level with Xur. Once you reach Brave at Rank 4, he’ll give you a Strange Key to complete this part of the quest. We recommend picking up all of his bounties, including repeatable ones, to speed up your progression. With a lot of other gear locked behind this rank, it really doesn’t hurt to go overboard.
5. Return to Eternity
Head back to the hub and talk to the horse to get your next quest step.

6. Use the Strange Key
You’ll be teleported to the new area sans all of the enemies trying to kill you. Now you just need to find out where exactly you’re supposed to use the key. The game will tell you when you’re close, but you can save some time and just use the image above from Strikerlegend89 on Reddit.
7. Visit Banshee-44
Now we have to go figure out what this Anomalous Object is. Go to Banshee-44 in the Tower and he’ll turn it into Forerunner for you.
And that’s it! Enjoy the new exotic. We’re currently investigating how to unlock the catalyst, but when you equip it you will gain The Rock, which reads:
For several seconds after a final blow, [Alternate Weapon Action] to consume part of your ammo reserves, converting your next thrown grenade into a fragmentation grenade.
Basically, it lets you throw grenades from Halo because why not! Sounds fun! You’ll first need to earn the catalyst and then defeat 700 targets with Forerunner, however.
