The Dawning is the Destiny 2 celebration of all things winter-y. There’s no time quite like the holidays, after all. It’s the time to surround yourselves with friends and family, spread good cheer, and eat a ton of unhealthy baked goods, of course.
Bungie truly understands the holidays with this year’s iteration of The Dawning, a limited time seasonal event in Destiny 2. You can still throw snowballs at other Guardians in the Tower like last year, but 2018’s version tunes you up for a Food Network baking show like no other.

Eva Levante, the original Destiny’s resident Guardian outfitter, has returned to the Tower for this year’s festivities. And this time she brought an old family heirloom: an oven imbued with the Traveler’s Light, to help you bake treats for all of your friends throughout the Solar system.
This is the main draw of this year’s Dawning (other than the beautifully-themed Eververse items). Baking goods and delivering them to your friends in the galaxy rewards you with a Powerful gear and the awesome Dawning Cheer Exotic sparrow.
To kick things off, visit Eva in the Tower. She’s parked right next to Ikora Rey.
The Dawning Ingredients
Just like any good baker, you need a bunch of ingredients before you mix them all together in a bowl and throw them in Eva’s oven. You won’t be using butter, eggs, or sugar, though. The Dawning’s gifts are a bit more Destiny-esque.
You will find all of the necessary ingredients by simply fighting enemies in the game. Specific enemies drop specific ingredients, and killing them in certain ways drops others. All of the drops are random.
Each recipe consists of three ingredients. Here’s how and where to find what you need to cook up some holiday fun for your friends:
The first ingredient is a random drop from certain enemy types.
- Vex Milk: Kill Vex
- Ether Cane: Kill Fallen
- Cabal Oil: Kill Cabal
- Chitin Powder: Kill Hive
- Taken Butter: Kill Taken
- Dark Ether Cane: Kill Scorn
The second ingredient is found by killing enemies in specific ways.
- Delicious Explosion: Kills with grenades, rocket launchers, or grenade launchers
- Sharp Flavor: Kills with swords
- Impossible Heat: Kills with Solar damage
- Electric Flavor: Kills with Arc damage
- Null Taste: Kills with Void damage
- Flash of Inspiration: Generate Orbs of Light
- Personal Touch: Kills with melee
- Perfect Taste: Kills with precision damage
- Bullet Spray: Kills with submachine guns, light machine guns, or auto rifles
The third ingredient is called Essence of Dawning. Find it by completing just about any activity in the world, or by completing bounties for Eva. Finishing something like a Strike or a Gambit match will reward you upwards of 15 Essence of Dawning, which is what each recipe will need to complete.
