Destiny 2 Armor Glow Guide - How the Solstice Rewards Loop Works

Here's how to Fully Restore your armor.

With the Destiny 2 seasonal story arc concluded, the Solstice event has officially returned to give you more goodies to grind for. Similar to previous Solstice events, players will be able to upgrade the armor they earn to unlock unique glows that change depending on your subclass. The EAZ activity returns, but with a noticeable twist. Instead of just killing enemies within a time limit, players are tasked with igniting and building a massive bonfire.

Of course, the biggest draw is improving your armor and giving them a unique white glow. While this feature has remained consistent since this event was first introduced, Bungie has taken it a step further with players now able to consistently grind for high-stat armor. However, the rewards loop for Solstice can be a bit confusing and a little overwhelming at first. There are multiple steps you’ll need to take to unlock both the armor glow and the ability to roll a piece of Solstice armor with high stats. Here’s a breakdown of the event’s reward cycle so you’ll know exactly what to do:

How to Get Each Solstice Material

1. Silver Leaves

Assuming you have completed the first few steps in the quest that Eva hands out in the Tower, your first goal is to start farming for Silver Leaves. This can be done by wearing any piece of Solstice gear and completing various activities. This can be anything from strikes to Crucible matches to Dares of Eternity. Of all the activities, one of the best ways to farm Silver Leaves solo is just by doing Public Events. They drop a decent amount and can usually be completed in under five minutes. Both the EAZ and Nessus are the best destinations to farm Silver Leaves since these Public Events are extremely easy to do solo.

2. Turn Silver Leaves into Silver Ash

Your next step will be to transform Silver Leaves into Silver Ash. This can only be done in the Bonfire Bash activity and it will happen at the end of the activity. Keep in mind that it’s not a 1-to-1 ratio, meaning if you have around 20 Silver Leaves going into this event, you’ll leave with a little over 50 Silver Ash.

3. Complete Event Card Challenges for Kindling

The last of the three major currencies is Kindling. This is tied to the new Event Card, which presents players with a host of new challenges themed around the event and materials. There are 24 challenges in total, each of which will reward you with a single Kindling upon completion. This is the only way to earn Kindling, which is what you’ll use to give your armor the white glow and unlock the ability to farm for higher stat rolls.

How to Get the White Armor Glow

1. Upgrade Your Armor to Small Kindling

The first step is to add the Small Kindling mod to your armor. This can be done on any piece of Candescent gear minus your class item. To do this, just inspect the armor piece and look at the fifth mod slot. You should be presented with an option to add the Small Kindling mod. Remember, you will need 1 Kindling to add the Small Kindling mod to that armor piece.

2. Upgrade Your Armor to Large Kindling

Once an armor has a Small Kindling slot equipped, you will be given the option to add a Large Kindling mod instead. This will overwrite the Small Kindling mod and requires 2 Kindling to equip. Doing this will get you one step closer to fully restoring your armor, unlocking its white glow, and giving you the ability to roll for high stats.

3. Fully Restore Your Armor

Finally, you will need to spend an additional 3 Kindling to fully restore your Solstice armor. This can only be done if a Large Kindling mod is currently equipped on your armor! After fully restoring your armor it will now have the white glow around it and you can use Silver Ash to hunt for better stats. Remember, once you fully restore a piece of Solstice armor, all gear in that slot will also be restored. Meaning if I fully restore a Candescent chest piece, all other chest pieces I get for my Warlock will have that glow and not require Kindling. This does not transfer to other characters, as you’ll need to re-earn all the Kindling via the Event Card challenges.

How to Get High Stat Armor

1. Add Glowing Embers to Your Armor

On Solstice armor, you can improve the stats of the gear by using Silver Ash. To start, you will need to add the Glowing Embers mod into the sixth slot of your Solstice gear. This will cost you 20 Silver Ash and requires you to already have the Small Kindling mod equipped.

2. Add Shining Embers to Your Armor

The next step is to add the Shining Embers mod to your Solstice armor piece. You will need to have the Large Kindling Mod equipped on that specific armor piece and you’ll need 40 additional Silver Ash.

3. Give Your Armor a Spark

Once you have fully restored a piece of armor you can finally give it a Spark. Upon highlighting the sixth mod slot, you will be presented with a row of mods that are each tied to one of your character’s core stats. Selecting one of these mods will improve that armor piece with a minimum of +20 to the stat you selected. So if I wanted to have a high Discipline chest piece, I would select the Spark of Discipline which gives me a minimum of +20 to that specific stat. Once you’ve selected a Spark you cannot re-roll that gear again and will need to spend a total of 120 Silver Ash on a new piece of armor to roll another high-stat armor piece.
