How to Get the Ager's Scepter Exotic Catalyst in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 Season of the Lost is here and we’re heading back to The Dreaming City. Acting as a prologue to The Witch Queen expansion, this season revolves around freeing Savathun from her worm god to save Osiris from her clutches. Along with a new seasonal activity, players can also obtain new armor, weapons, exotics, and in-game consumables. For those who have been keeping up with Season of the Lost each week, you should already have unlocked the new Ager’s Scepter trace rifle. If you haven’t, make sure to visit our guide here for all the details about this quest. I recommend getting the gun because today the new Ager’s Scepter exotic catalyst is available for all players to obtain.

How to Get the Ager’s Scepter Catalyst

Unlike other seasonal catalysts, you won’t need to complete a quest given out by an NPC or vendor. Instead, you can get the Ager’s Scepter catalyst as a random drop at the end of the Astral Alignment activity. Dropped from the Wayfinder’s Troves upon defeating the final boss, you will need to spend 150 Parallax Trajectory to open this chest. Keep in mind, the catalyst being rewarded is completely random so you may get it your first try or it may take several runs before this appears. Just make sure you are opening the Wayfinder’s Troves at the end of the Astral Alignment, otherwise, you won’t have a chance to obtain this catalyst.

Currently, there is no other way to obtain this catalyst and it’s unclear if these seasonal activities will be available in February when the Witch Queen expansion launches. Because of this, you will want to make sure you try to get the catalyst before that DLC drops. Lucky for you, that’s several months away so you have all the time in the world to both unlock the Ager’s Scepter and obtain the catalyst. Once you have the catalyst, all you need to do is kill enemies with it until the weapon can be masterworked. Some of the best places to do this include the Shadow Thrall encounter in The Shattered Throne, the Blind Well, Altars of Sorrow, and the Astral Alignment activity.

What Does the Ager’s Scepter Catalyst Do?

Here’s where things get interesting because once completed the catalyst essentially gives this gun an entire additional perk. Once your Super is fully charged, the Ager’s Scepter will actually increase in damage, but it will slowly drain your Super meter whenever it’s fired. You will still slow and freeze targets, but the weapon will hit far harder. However, if you stow the weapon or reload the magazine the effect will end and you’ll need to charge your Super again to trigger the catalyst’s effect. Because of this, Ager’s Scepter works perfectly in builds that focus on getting their Super back as soon as possible. This means you’ll want 100 Intellect and to run exotics like Pheonix Protocol, Shards of Galanor, and Ursa Furiosa.
