In many ways, Stardew Valley is a game of momentumm; you start with only bit of money and a handful of seeds to plant, and are expected to snowball them into a veritable farming empire. Throughout Spring, Summer, and Fall, you’ll build upon the wealth you’ve amassed in the previous season in order to grow your number of planted crops, which increases your income, and so on.
And then, in Winter, everything comes to a screeching halt.
Snow blankets Pelican Town for the final 28 days of the year, rendering the soil unfit for tilling and planting. Instead of heading to Pierre’s shop and buying seed packets as you would at the start of any other season, you’re meant to focus your attention on other activities, living off of your saved money.
Winter serves as a sort of test for the player, an exercise in preparation and foresight. If you’re looking for how to survive the season, your best bet is to repair the greenhouse. Here, you can grow crops even while it’s snowing outside.
How to Repair the Greenhouse
You may not be able to work the land outside during the Winter, but there’s still a way to grow crops. It involves repairing the dilapidated greenhouse on your farmland, the one just west of your house. To fix it up, you’re going to need to appease the Junimo spirits by completing a series of community center bundles. It’s all the bundles in the Pantry series that’ll you’ll need to focus on. Here’s what they call for:

If you don’t want to complete the bundles, you can also unlock the greenhouse by purchasing it for 35,000 gold via the Joja Community Development Projects.
What to Grow in the Greenhouse
Once you unlock the greenhouse, you can plant and grow crops inside just as you would outside. Here are the general recommendations on the best crops to grow here during Winter considering the 28 day time limit and crop growth/regrowth rates:
- Ancient Fruit – Fruit sells for 2200 gold each, or 4600 gold when made into jam, and 6600 when made into wine. Highest profit margin by far.
- Blueberries – Blueberries are a very lucrative fruit. They tend to produce three fruits per fully-grown crop, and sell for 1050 gold per unit. You can increase this by making jam and wine with them as well.
- Hops – Hops require a lot of attention, but the effort is well worth it. You can make upwards of 23,000 gold on one hops harvest if you manage your time right.
- Fruit Trees – Fruit trees are a good source of income as well. We suggest Peach or Pomegranate trees ourselves.
