Stardew Valley has four seasons that you can play through, and most of them have great crops that you can grow to make a profit. However, Winter is the outlier, as you cannot grow crops outside because it is too cold. As a result, if you try to plant anything, your crops will die.
Don’t be disheartened, though! There is still a way to farm, but it requires some work during the previous seasons, so you can get to it. Here are some top tips to make money during Winter in Stardew Valley.
Tips for Winter in Stardew Valley
1. Unlock the Greenhouse
The first thing you want to do is make sure you complete the pantry in the Community Center. By doing so, you’ll unlock the Greenhouse. This will allow you to plant crops through the winter season without them dying on you.
There isn’t a whole lot of space to work with in the Greenhouse, but it’s still a great way to make some money as well as plant crops that can be used for Artisanal purposes.

2. Make Ale and Wine!
Alternatively, if you find that you don’t make it to Winter with the Greenhouse completed, you should save some Hops and Ancient Fruit from the seasons before. This way, you can put them into Kegs. This is far more profitable than selling Hops and Ancient Fruit as crops. While the waiting game may be a long one, the cash you’ll earn as a result of saving them will be worth it.
3. Forage for Quick Gold
While foraging isn’t the most profitable, there are some great items that you can find scattered around the valley that you can sell off. Equally, these items are also used in the Community Center, which will allow you to unlock the Greenhouse.

4. Go Fishing
One of the best things you can do in the Winter in Stardew Valley is fishing. There isn’t a whole lot to do in Winter unless you have a greenhouse, so fishing is a great way to make money. There are also Winter exclusive fish, so it’ll be a great time to cross off some ones that you haven’t caught before. Additionally, catching fish may give you the opportunity to complete some of the fishing bundles in the Community Center!
There are plenty more things you can do in the Winter, but the extra activities won’t earn you money. For example, you can improve your relationships with villagers. Or, you can try and tick off some of those quests you have in your journal.
Although you won’t be able to get much farming done in the Winter, there is still plenty to be done in Stardew Valley!
