Pictomancer is the Second New Job Coming to FFXIV's Dawntrail

The Warrior of Light's imagination will run wild as the new magical ranged DPS in Dawntrail.

Since the Viper job reveal during London's Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival, fans have speculated on what the second job coming to the game's upcoming expansion, Dawntrail, could potentially be. Three months later, during the Tokyo iteration of FFXIV Fan Fest, the game's director and producer, Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida, took the stage during the festival's opening keynote and ended the suspense.

Pictomancer is the ranged magical DPS job joining Viper as one of the two jobs coming in Dawntrail. With a large magical brush, the Pictomancer brings its imagination to life by painting creatures, weapons, landscapes, and other imagery to attack its enemies. The job first debuted in Final Fantasy VI by the character Relm Arrowny, acting as a debuff-oriented caster. During Tokyo Fan Fest's opening keynote, Yoshi-P stated that FFXIV iteration of Pictomancer will have both buffs and instant cast abilities, but will be unable to resurrect their party members.

Yoshi-P is known to tease fans with subtle hints through clever t-shirt designs or brief mentions of other potential jobs to throw speculators off his trail. During the Las Vegas FFXIV Fan Fest's keynote, Yoshi-P appeared on stage with a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shirt, which first fueled the idea of the reimagining of FFVI's Pictomancer due to the four characters being named after famous Italian Renaissance artists. Not many saw the Viper connection to Leonardo's twin katanas, but knowing the job following it would be a ranged magical DPS, many began to predict that Green Mage or Geomancer could also make an appearance.

The most significant indicator of the Warrior of Light potentially encountering green magic came from Patch 6.5's epilogue cutscene, where fans of the Final Fantasy Tactics series noticed a familiar three-leafed clover presented to one of the characters. Green Mage's symbol in previous games was represented with the three-leaf clover, making players who noted the connection that much more confident that they knew what the future held for upcoming jobs in Final Fantasy XIV. Yoshi-P got the last laugh during Tokyo's FanFest as Krile appeared in the full trailer with a magical brush and easel, meaning the three-leafed clover in the story was either a red herring or a hint for future jobs.
