Square Enix added further kindling to the bonfire of excitement around Dawntrail today when they released new art of Final Fantasy XIV’s upcoming jobs, Pictomancer and Viper. Posted on FFXIV’s official social channels, the two pieces of artwork, drawn by Yusuke Mogi, showcase a playful-looking Pictomancer, and a serious sword-wielding Viper.
In the illustrations, the personality, and signature look of the new jobs are really on show. The Pictomancer’s artistic and playful energy is contrasted by the dour and serious vibe of the female Hrothgar Viper. The works are one of several pieces of art by Yusuke Mogi that Square Enix has highlighted as of late.
Yusuke Mogi has been one of the defining artists of FFXIV since around the time of the release of Stormblood, where his character designs helped set the visual tone of that expansion. Last month, Square Enix published a series of illustrations by the artist of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. The artist was also responsible for the first major post-expansion patch art for Endwalker, creating the Newfound Adventure artwork.
The Pictomancer and Viper were unveiled during the Fan Fest events across 2023 and 2024. The Viper was unveiled at the FFXIV London Fan Fest as the first new job added in Dawntrail. A double-sword dual-wielding melee DPS, the Viper combines a swashbuckling aesthetic with the lore of the new continent Tural.
The Pictomancer was revealed at the Tokyo Fan Fest and made a splash (of paint), revealing a surprising choice for the expansion’s second job. A ranged magical DPS, the Pictomancer uses an enchanted paintbrush to reshape reality.
Both new jobs are set for release as part of Dawntrail, along with a promised third limited job, Beastmaster (similar to Blue Mage). Dawntrail’s release date is not currently confirmed, but is scheduled for launch during summer this year.
