FFXIV x Yo-kai Watch Collaboration Event Guide

A comprehensive guide to the Yo-kai Watch event!

The Final Fantasy XIV Yo-kai Watch collaboration event has returned for the first time since 2020, bringing dozens of minions, weapons, mounts, and a new Framer's kit for Adventurer Portraits. This crossover event doesn't occur regularly, so you'll need to act while it's live to grab the event's limited-time items before the event's end.

The event can be confusing for those unfamiliar with how to obtain these items and need to know what's involved. Many players have missed the past iterations of the Yo-Kai Watch collaboration, and others have only partially completed the event, so plenty Warriors of Light want to collect Jibanyan and friends for the first time. This guide entails how to participate and what to expect in the Yo-kai Watch event for FFXIV.

The Yo-kai Watch collaboration is a crossover between FFXIV and the Yo-kai Watch franchise, which allows you to unlock minions, weapons, and mounts by completing FATEs. You can unlock 17 minions, 17 weapons, three mounts, and a framing kit during the event. 2024's iteration of the event will run from April 24 until the release of Patch 7.0, giving you plenty of time to farm up those minions and weapons.

How to Start the Yo-kai Watch Event

Your character must be at least level 15 and have completed one of the three Grand Company Main Scenario Quests, The Gridanian Envoy, The Lominsan Envoy, or The Ul’dahn Envoy, to part the Yo-Kai Watch collaboration.

With the prerequisites met, head to Ul’dah – the Steps of Nald and speak to the Poor-heeled Youth (X: 9.2, Y: 9.1) to take the opening quest for the event. Completing the quest will unlock the Yo-kai Watch and Yo-kai Medallium compendium, which allows you to gather Yo-kai medals.

To obtain Yo-kai minions, you need to obtain Yo-kai Medals. You'll have to participate in FATEs located in the Black Shroud, La Noscea, Thanalan or any Heavensward or Stormblood zones with your new Yo-Kai Watch equipped and earn a Gold or Silver completion rating to get these medals. Once you complete one of these FATEs, you'll receive some Yo-kai Medals depending on your performance.

With your newly-earned Yo-Kai Medals in hand, head to The Gold Saucer and trade the medals to the Wandering Executive (X: 5.2, Y: 6.9), who will trade the first minion to you for just a single Yo-kai Medal and subsequent minions for three Yo-kai Medals. You'll need 49 medals in total for all 17 Yo-kai Minions.

The minions you can obtain are listed below:

  • Jibanyan
  • Komasan
  • USApyonii
  • Whisper

Once you’ve unlocked at least 13 Yo-kai minions, you can acquire weapons themed after each minion for 17 jobs, though there are currently no weapons for Sage or Reaper. To get these weapons, you’ll need to obtain Legendary Yo-kai Medals. Completing FATEs in specific locations with a specific Yo-kai minion summoned unlocks a particular weapon.

Below is a table that details the weapons, the minion associated with it, and the locations where Legendary Yo-kai Medals can be earned.
