Dragon's Dogma 2 introduces Pawn Inclinations, which are crucial for tailoring your pawn's behavior to match their vocation. Understanding which inclination to choose is key to optimizing your pawn's effectiveness. This guide will provide the insights necessary to make the best choice for your pawn's role.
What is a Pawn Inclination in Dragon’s Dogma 2?
The inclination of your Pawn refers to their general disposition, how they’ll react in certain situations, their attitude towards you and others, and how their AI reacts. They also have access to specializations that come later in the game. These quirks can be incredibly beneficial and can help you make the most of their inclination and AI behavior.
In total, there are four inclinations to choose from:
- Kindhearted
- Calm
- Simple
- Straightforward
Some inclinations are better suited to some vocations than others, and it depends on how you want to utilize your pawn.

Calm Pawns
Will assess the situation before rushing into a hectic battle. They will also try to make sure that they survive in hard battles and can be defensive when needed. The worst thing about Calm Pawns is that they will organize their inventory and discard items without asking you. As a result, it’s best not to give them anything valuable, as you may never see it again in their hands.
Kindhearted Pawns
Are best if you’re looking for a support role. They will be by your side whenever you need them and are more likely to use defensive skills should you need them. If you find yourself needing a healer, Kindhearted Pawns are the way to go.
Simple Pawns
Prefer exploration rather than diving into battle. As a result, they will often run ahead and scout the area for treasures and points of interest. This can be both a benefit and a detriment, depending on the vocation they have. When it comes to battle, they make reasonable decisions and can decide between whether they should be offensive or defensive.
Straightforward Pawns
Have laser focus for spotting an enemy and will be quick to jump into combat with them. They love the chaos of battle, which can also lead to their doom if they aren’t careful. Even if it’s looking dicey and they’re on the brink of death, they’re unlikely to retreat from the battle. However, their need for targeting the most dangerous enemy can be beneficial, as it leaves you and your other pawns to take out the smaller enemies in the area.
That’s everything you need to know about inclinations for Pawns and what they do in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
