Final Fantasy XIV’s Island Sanctuary is getting a new currency in Patch 6.5, as per the preliminary patch notes released on Sept. 26. FFXIV’s casual content has already fatted players’ wallets with Seafarer’s and Islander’s Cowries, but now Felicitous Tokens will be added to the mix.
This new currency will be earned by completing a new seasonal set of tasks on the Island Sanctuary. By speaking to the Felicitous Furball, you’ll be offered Felicitous Favors, which are specific handicrafts that need to be constructed. If you construct and ship these handicrafts, you’ll earn Felicitous Tokens. The more Favors you complete, the more Tokens are rewarded, with an extra bundle of Tokens for completion of all a season's Favors. This new currency can then be used to exchange with the Horrendous Hoarder for “various items.”

What these various items are remains to be seen, but it’s expected they’ll be the most sought-after of Patch 6.5’s Island Sanctuary mounts and minions. Or perhaps it’ll be yet another way to get high grade Materia and Dark Matter.
Overall, this change will shift players’ current Islework Agendas a bit. The Island Sanctuary had effectively been “solved,” with players working out the best possible handicrafts each season to maximize Cowrie profit and earn the rewards as quickly as possible. Most players who seriously want to play the Island Sanctuary can look up a guide and find the perfect schedule for each season. The addition of Felicitous Favors adds a wrinkle of complexity to the system that may force islanders to avoid the most profitable handicrafts in favor of a Felicitous Favor reward.
Beyond this new currency, the upcoming changes to the Island Sanctuary seem substantial. The max Sanctuary Rank is increasing to 20, there’s a new area, and some huge and beautiful-looking new structures. For players who love the Island Sanctuary, there’s going to be plenty to do in Patch 6.5.
