Best Ways to Farm Irregular Tomestones of Genesis I in FFXIV

How to farm those precious Irregular Tomestones in the most efficient way!

For the Final Fantasy XIV Moogle Treasure Trove the First Hunt for Genesis event, Square Enix has switched up the formula in an attempt to make the grind much less intense. Rather than reduce the number of Tomestones required, the developers have instead focused on widening the variety of Duties you can use to farm, and adding weekly and Minimog challenges.

These include Ocean Fishing, FATEs, Triple Triad games, specific Dungeon Runs, and more. But with this new system, is there a better way than just throwing yourself at Castrum Meridianum runs for 10 hours a day? Here’s how to best farm Irregular Tomestones during the Moogle Treasure Trove the First Hunt for Genesis event so you can earn all of the rewards you have your heart set on.

How to farm Irregular Tomestones for the Moogle Treasure Trove in FFXIV

With the new Mogpendium, things are a little different with the best way to farm Irregular Tomestones. First, there are some big bonuses to be picked up with your Weekly Objectives and Minimog Challenges, Minimog Challenges, and Ultimog Challenge.

Weekly Objectives

The Weekly Objectives are random for each player, so you’ll get a duty selected from the Standard Objectives each week that you’ll receive 20 bonus Irregular Tomestones of Genesis I for completing. Since you’ll receive the 20 bonus Tomestones, as well as the regular amount, these are definitely recommended.

Minimog Challenges

Minimog Challenges are a selection of small challenges. These seem to be the same for every player, and in week one included FATEs in Lakeland and Kholusia, and a Triple Triad match. You can only complete one of these challenges, and you’ll receive 10 Irregular Tomestones of Genesis I.

The Ultimog Challenges

Ultimog Challenges also appear to be the same for all players, and for The First Hunt of the Moogle Treasure Trove Genesis event, this appears to be to score 8,000 points during a single Ocean Fishing Voyage. Completion of this task will be 50 Irregular Tomestones of Genesis I. Since you also receive five Irregular Tomestones for Ocean Fishing, this is a great way to break up the monotony of farming dungeons and other Standard Objectives. As Ocean Fishing only embarks every two hours, you can mix in the occasional dungeon or GATE to break things up.

Once you’ve completed your Weekly Objectives and Minigmog Challenges, the best way to farm Tomestones is to back-to-back queue the Standard Objectives. However, not all Standard Objectives are made equal, and you should prioritize them in this order:

The Good

PvP

PvP such as the four Frontline Duties and Rival Wings (Hidden Gorge) are quick, easy, and Frontline even has a Roulette. Giving between 3-5 Tomestones for an often less than 20-minute duty, this is one of the most efficient ways to solo farm Irregular Tomestones. For Rival Wings, you’ll need to try and find a coordinated queue,

Dungeons

Dungeons are a better way of farming Irregular Tomestones if you have a party with you. Blue Mages are a godsend here, and groups of four Blue Mages can carve through Satasha (Hard) in no time. There are some dungeons you should avoid though. Stone Vigil (Hard) is a miserable dungeon to run, due to almost no bosses actually registering enmity/aggro, and a boss that requires precision artillery fire. Similarly, something like The Praetorium isn’t time efficient.

Ocean Fishing

Ocean Fishing is one of the better ways to farm. Newly added, and on a set schedule, this is one you work around dungeon runs rather than just queue for two hours for. Instead, try to mix things up: Go on an Ocean Fishing expedition, then head into some PvP, maybe a Dungeon, then arrive nice and early for fishing sign-up. The five Irregular Tomestones for each expedition, the low comparable effort, and the fact it's new for the event type make this a great option. Just make sure you arrive early enough for sign-up.

The Bad

GATEs

GATEs are a mixed bag. They spawn a little too infrequently and have too much of a variance on rewards. That said, something like Air Force One or one of the Leap of Faith GATEs can make it all worth it.

Trials

Trials are a bit of a false economy. Porta Decumana is never efficient, due to the long fight time, low level, and unskippable cutscenes. The Containment Bay fights are okay, and if you can clear five or more in an hour you’re doing well. But the minute there are wipes, or people don’t know mechanics, this can get ugly.

Raids

Alliance Raids take forever, and most people are sick of them. And with only three Irregular Tomestones on offer, there are better ways to earn your Tomes. The Eden Raids, like Trials are fine if you can get five or more in an hour. But the minute people start wiping, or don’t know the raid, it’s going to drag. Not for the faint of heart.
