It’s not often that a Pokemon game’s box art mascot has an evolutionary line. More often than not, the mascot characters for each of the Pokemon RPGs is a legendary creature that plays a major role in the story, and usually appears as a late game boss to be caught and trained. But the reveal of Cyclizar, a new Dragon/Normal-type Pokemon, has fans wondering if it might be the pre-evolution to Koraidon and Miraidon, the characters on the cover of Pokemon Scarlet & Violet.
Koraidon and Miraidon have already seemed a bit different than the usual mascot Pokemon, as it seems like the player will get them fairly early on in Scarlet & Violet to ride them through the games’ open world. This is already subversive to what we usually get from Pokemon games, as characters like Dialga and Palkia in Diamond & Pearl or Zacian and Zamazenta in Sword & Shield made appearances at the eleventh hour. But Cyclizar’s debut today at Pokemon World Championships has thrown a wrench into our current understanding of these Pokemon altogether. The Mount Pokemon is described as one that has lived in the games’ Paldea region “since ancient times” and can sprint over 70mph while carrying a human rider. That already seems in line with what we know of Koraidon and Miraidon, as they will act as the player’s mount throughout Scarlet & Violet.
It’s possible then, the player may get a Cyclizar first, and events will determine if it evolves into Koraidon and Miraidon depending on whether you’re playing Scarlet & Violet. That’s how things went down in Pokemon Sun & Moon, which had Cosmog evolve into Cosmoem, then into Solgaleo or Lunala depending on which game you were playing. It’s speculation at this point, but Cyclizar has the same face and wheel…throat thing as Koraidon and Miraidon.
Meet Cyclizar, the Mount Pokémon!
This Pokémon has lived in many Paldean households since ancient times. It can sprint at over 70 mph while carrying a human rider.

Whether Game Freak and The Pokemon Company will reveal this explicitly is unclear right now, but Cyclizar’s description and appearance seems too close to what we know about Koraidon and Miraidon to be a coincidence. Although, who knows? This might end up a Luvdisc and Alomomola situation.
Pokemon Scarlet & Violet are coming to Switch on November 18.
