FFXIV Patch 6.1 Job Changes [UPDATED]: Samurai, Ninja, White Mage, and More

If you play Dark Knight, Dragoon, Summoner, Ninja, Machinist, Samurai, White Mage, or Scholar in Final Fantasy XIV, take notes.

As part of the latest Live Letter from the Producer, we got details on Job changes coming to Final Fantasy XIV via Patch 6.1. You can peep the FFXIV Patch 6.1 trailer to see all the exciting things lined up for the update ahead of its April 12 release. But here, we’re going to breakdown the adjustments being made to Dark Knight, Dragoon, Summoner, Ninja, Machinist, Samurai, White Mage, and Scholar when the patch drops. While there aren’t major overhauls to how these Jobs play, there are notable tweaks that you’ll want to account for.

UPDATE (4/11/2022): The official FFXIV 6.1 patch notes have been released with all the details on Job changes. Please refer to our full breakdown of all the FFXIV 6.1 Job changes.

Director and producer Naoki Yoshida noted said these aren’t the only changes being made to Jobs in FFXIV Patch 6.1, and that we should expect every Job to have at least some adjustment. In addition to what’s detailed below, Yoshida-san said all healers will get reductions to the MP cost of their skills. Although there weren’t specific details, Ninja and Red Mage should get reduced animation lock on certain skills. He also said the team made changes to when Jobs learn certain skills to improve the gameplay experience at lower levels.

Machinist

  • Potency increases to several actions, including Heat Blast, Wildfire, and Drill.

Samurai

  • Guaranteed critical hits for the following actions: Midare Setsugekka, Kaeshi: Setsugekka, Ogi Namikiri, and Kaeshi: Namikiri. This is said to help minimize wildly fluctuating DPS results.
  • Hissatsu: Kaiten is being removed. This is said to help minimize action bloat.
  • Potency for other actions will be adjusted accordingly. No specific numbers yet.

Ninja

  • Mug is being changed. It will apply a debuff to enemies that will increase damage taken from the party.
  • Trick Attack is being changed to only increase personal damage dealt to the enemy. Likely due to the change to Mug.
  • Potency for other actions will be adjusted accordingly. No specific numbers yet.
  • Reduction to animation lock on certain actions.

Dark Knight

  • Living Dead is being improved — the effect of Walking Dead will restore HP by a significant amount when landing successful attacks.

Dragoon

  • Shortened animation locks for Jump actions.
  • Additional adjustments to actions to reduce bloat and stress from the gameplay experience.

Summoner

  • Searing Light will be cast by the player themself instead of by their Carbuncle pet. (We’ll guess this gets rid of the requirement to be in a Carbuncle phase to cast.)

White Mage

  • Effect radius for both Cure III and Asylum will increase to 10 yalms.
  • Liturgy of the Bell can be triggered to end and will heal an amount of HP depending on the number of remaining stacks.

Scholar

  • Effect radius for Sacred Soil will increase to 10 yalms.
  • Effect duration for Expedience (from the action Experdient) will be reduced to 10 seconds, down from 20 seconds.

Red Mage

  • Displacement animation lock reduced to 0.3 seconds.

All Healers

  • Reduction to MP cost of certain skills.

Again, there will be more adjustments to Jobs in addition to everything outlined above when Patch 6.1 drops on April 12. There will also be a full FFXIV 6.1 patch notes reveal on April 11, and that will contain all the specific Job changes for the update.
