As we wait in the gulf between now and the release of Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker, one of the biggest side hustles for most of us is leveling another job. Alongside my Relic grind, I personally decided to give Samurai another shot. At the same time, I’m also leveling crafting jobs like Blacksmith and Culinarian. While leveling a second job isn’t too bad these days, it can get tiring to run the same dungeons, trials, and levequests over and over again.
The Armory System allows players to enjoy every job on a single character simply by changing their gear. With the recent influx in players, the team at Square Enix notes that they’ve seen a rise in players willing to level up multiple jobs, rather than sticking with a single one. The team acknowledges that it’s a problem, so they’re making the process of leveling a secondary job a bit easier in Endwalker.
“We’ve adjusted how long it will take to reach the cap with one job in 6.0. This review was made with the intention of delivering an easier game experience for our new players,” explained Yoshida in a media tour presentation. “To put it simply, it will be super easy to level up a single job. Leveling up will be faster. The balance of the game is such that you’ll be able to experience more things if you use surplus EXP towards other jobs. As always, we don’t mind if players prefer using one job, but if you were interested in giving other jobs a try, there will no longer be the additional strain of investing a lot of time into those jobs. Simply put, we’ve made it easier for you to play using a variety of jobs.”
Yoshida didn’t go into further details about the specifics of these changes. It could be as simple as awarding more experience if you already have a max level job, or simply decreasing the amount of experience needed to max out a secondary job. Regardless, it’ll eventually be easier for you to decide to pick up Bard or Scholar for the first time on your Gunbreaker.
Yoshida says the change is about improving the player experience overall. “I’d like to make it so that players can enjoy their characters rather than the concept of the jobs themselves,” he admitted.
