If you’re leveling up a new Job in Final Fantasy XIV, you’ll have to make your way through this level range. Levels 50 to 60 were added in the Heavensward expansion, alongside a few new Jobs. Once you’ve finished the excellent main scenario, you’ll probably want to blast through these levels as soon as possible with an alternate Job. That’s where this guide comes in! We also have a guide for the entire leveling process in one place, if that helps. But here, this FFXIV leveling guide 50-60 will focus on the finer details.
Take note that the Jobs introduced in Stormblood, Samurai and Red Mage, begin at level 50. While this lets you skip all of the level 1 through 50 grind, here is where you want to start if you pick up those Jobs.
Levels 50-60 General Details
There are a number of items that offer experience bonuses within certain level ranges. However, at this point, all of the relevant ones are sadly pre-order bonuses for various expansions. While one is an item gained when you bring a new subscriber into FFXIV, it does not cover levels 50 to 60. The following is a list of the relevant earrings to help leveling, so use them if you have them.
- Ala Mhigan Earrings (from pre-ordering Stormblood): 30% bonus until level 51
- Aetheryte Earring (from pre-ordering Shadowbringers): 30% bonus until 71
- Menphina’s Earring (from pre-ordering Endwalker): 30% bonus until level 81
A general rule of thumb for these is to simply equip the latest one you have until it stops granting the bonus EXP. For example, Menphina’s Earring from Endwalker not only lasts the longest through the leveling process, it also has better additional stats compared to its counterparts.
You should probably have a stack of any basic consumable food item. All food gives you a 3% bonus to EXP gains from killing enemies. These effects last for 30 minutes per food item consumed and caps at 60 minutes at a time. It’s not a ton, but it will add up over time and shave a bit off your overall leveling grind.
Finally, there’s the Armoury Bonus. This feature gives players a 100% experience bonus for any Job that is lower than their max level Job. So if your primary Job is Samurai, at level 80, then every Job below 80 will benefit from the armoury bonus. This bonus applies to main story quests, dungeon bosses and completion, FATEs, Leves, and Deep Dungeon. Note, the Armoury Bonus is only an additional 50% for the current expansion. This means from level 80-90, the Endwalker levels. For subsequent expansions, you can expect the same.
Levels 50-60
This is a weird level range that shares a lot of options with the ranges before and after it. You’ll always want to do your daily Duty Roulettes — the Leveling Roulette is the most effective one, which awards the best chunk of EXP for the time invested. The Main Scenario Roulette is a good second option for Daily Roulettes, considering the EXP gain.
There are also Challenge Logs. This system unlocks at level 15 and gives you experience for completing challenges, like running five dungeons, defeating 20 enemies with your Chocobo, various other basic tasks. Most of the time, you’ll complete these simply by playing. They also reset every Tuesday, so be sure to clear these tasks on a weekly basis.
Alternatively running Floors 51-60 of the Palace of the Dead. You should have it unlocked if you used our previous leveling guide for 1-50. If not, you can unlock it via the level 17 quest “The House That Death Built” from the NPC named Nojito Marujiro in New Gridania (X: 12.0, Y: 13.1).
Beyond that, running the highest level dungeon available to you is always a good choice. Healers and tanks shouldn’t have to wait long when queuing directly into a dungeon. DPS players, however, will face long queue times. When FFXIV Patch 6.2 launches, players will be able to use the Duty Support system and take NPCs as party members into the first half of the Heavensward MSQ dungeons. It may not be as efficient, but at least you’ll skip the unpredictable queue time. However, you will have to wait until mid- to late-August when FFXIV 6.2 release.
You’ll get one new addition for leveling here, and that’s the Clan Hunts. Hunts give you specific targets to kill, and when you do so, you get Centurio Seals, Gil, and EXP. You can unlock them by ranking up to Second Lieutenant in your Grand Company and picking up the quest “Let the Hunt Begin” from an NPC in your GC.
- Maelstrom – Trachraet (X: 12.7 Y: 12.8 – Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks)
- Twin Adder – Scarlet (X: 9.9 Y: 11.4 – New Gridania)
- Immortal Flames – Mimio Mio (X: 8.6 Y: 9.4 – Ul’dah Steps of Nald)
Once that quest is done, you can pick up the level 53 quest “Let the Clan Hunt Begin” from Aytienne in Foundation (X: 12.9, Y: 11.8). The Clan Hunts picked up in Ishgard are a decent way to fill out the leveling process, especially if you need something to do while waiting in duty queues. Hunts in general are also useful at later levels, so you should unlock them now in order access the later ones immediately, if you haven’t already. Keep in mind that some Hunts are higher levels, so avoid Hunts in places like Azys Lla or The Dravanian Hinterlands until you’re around level 58 or 59.
Hopefully, this gives you a solid foundation to work with in regards to leveling. You should blow through these Heavensward levels in no time, though they aren’t as quick as A Realm Reborn’s levels 1-50. We also have a guide for the entire leveling process in one place, taking you all the way to Level 90 as fast as possible.
