Back in 2020, NHK ran a huge poll for all things Final Fantasy. A total of 468,654 votes were cast on surveys asking players about their favorite games in the series, favorite bosses, favorite musical tracks, and even favorite characters. At the time, relatively-new FFXIV villain Emet-Selch was able to claw his way to the top for FFXIV characters by coming in as the sixth most-beloved Final Fantasy character of all time.
In a new poll from Famitsu (translated via Audrey “Aitaikomochi” Lamsam), the pithy Ascian still has a stranglehold on the top spot in FFXIV. He’s followed in the Top 3 by the world’s best cat boy, G’raha Tia, and the staunch hero Haurchefant Greystone.

Only the top three characters were listed in order. The other favorites are in a general unranked list that includes several FFXIV mainstays like Alisaie, Alphinaud, Thancred, Y’shtola, Estinien, Urianger, and Tataru, alongside expansion-specific characters like Zenos, Venat, Hythlodaeus, Hermes, Ardbert, Aymeric, and Ryne.
Of course, with the upcoming release of Patch 6.1, it’s clear the new rising star will be Ameliance Leveilleur, the mother of the twins. She’ll be the focus of the new Custom Delivery quests and will even sport a swank tuxedo! We look forward to her increased star power in the future.
