Now that you’ve finished Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker and witnessed its grand conclusion, it’s time for endgame content and the gear grind. While it’s a rather straightforward process, it will take some time and determination to get a full set of the new level 90 gear. But if you pace yourself, it’s not bad at all.
To do this, you will have to earn Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism, which is one of the new types of endgame currency. It’s required to get gear pieces from the level 90 (item level 570) Moonward gear set. Below, we’ll show you how to earn Tomestones of Aphorism quickly, where to spend them, and why it’s worth the effort.
How to Earn Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
Your primary means of getting Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism will be completing the various Daily Roulettes in your Duty Finder — remember, you must use a level 90 Job to earn them. Each Roulette rewards you with a certain number of Tomestones, which can be earned once a day. Here’s the list of Roulettes you should have available and the number of Tomestones you’ll earn from doing them.
- Expert: 160 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism (80 from the Roulette and 80 from the dungeon run)
- Level 50/60/70/80 Dungeons: 120 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
- Leveling: 100 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
- Trials: 60 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
- Main Scenario: 100 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
- Alliance Raids: 120 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
- Normal Raids: 60 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
- Mentor: 30 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
- Frontlines (PvP): 50 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
Once you’ve exhausted your Daily Roulettes, or if you’d rather just run the level 90 dungeons, you can queue directly into The Dead Ends, Smileton, and/or The Stigma Dreamscape and earn 80 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism per run.
Both Smileton and The Stigma Dreamscape are post-game dungeons that need to be unlocked after finishing the main story — they’re also required in order to unlock the Expert Duty Roulette. If you need help on this, check out our Smileton and Stigma Dreamscape unlock guide.
Another way to earn these Tomestones is through Hunt trains, which is a bit unconventional but can be more efficient. You’ll have to do some digging to find a group in Party Finder or among Discord communities since they’ll have the information and means to find and kill the necessary enemies. Basically, groups of players will go from zone to zone to fight the rare, extra difficult level 90 enemies typically marked for Elite-level Hunts. If they’re anything like they were in Shadowbringers, you should earn about 10 or 20 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism per kill in addition to Allagan Tomestones of Poetics and materials to exchange for high-level Materia.
Keep in mind there is a cap of 2,000 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism you can hold at once, so be sure to spend them before you reach your limit.
Where’s the Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism Vendor?
To spend your hard-earned Tomestones, you’ll need to go to Radz-at-Han and seek out the vendor Cihanti located at X: 10.8, Y: 10.3, which is in the left-hand marketplace hallway near the city’s main Aetheryte. This NPC sells all the necessary gear for each combat Job.
Moonward Gear Prices
Here are the prices for each type of Moondward gear you can purchase:
- Any Weapon: 500 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
- Body and Legs gear: 410 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
- Head, Hands, and Feet gear: 245 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
- Any Accessory: 180 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism
To get a full set of Moonward gear, it’ll cost you a total of 2,775 Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism. That may seem like a lot, but this is easier than it has been in the past. And if you pace yourself through Daily Roulettes, you’ll have your full set in about a week’s time.
What’s This Moonward Gear I’m Buying?
All the weapons, armor, and accessories you get through Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism are in the line of Moonward gear. Each piece of gear for the different Jobs is modeled after their Final Fantasy IV character counterpart, which is a nice nod since many aspects of Endwalker use that game as source material.
All Moonward gear has an item level of 570, and each gear piece has two Materia slots while accessories have one. This is the best you can get right now without having to do the latest Extreme Trials (an ilvl 580 weapon and ilvl 580 accessories can be earned from them). Moonward gear will put you in the best position for other endgame content in the near future, as well.
We also suspect there to be a token exchange system along with Patch 6.1, similar to how the game has had in the past. This should let you upgrade Moonward gear to Augmented versions with better stats and higher item levels, so it’s worth investing in a set now.
Make sure you’re buying the right gear for your Job — pay attention to the tooltip pop-up when you hover over the item in the shop. There’s no exchanging gear once you spend those Tomestones!
