When the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo was released, part of the deal was that players who completed it didn’t have to retrace their steps. Or at least it seemed that way. The demo covered the famous Nibelheim flashback, one of the most crucial moments in the original Final Fantasy VII story. But it wasn’t the full opening of Rebirth, either. It’s complicated, and so is the skipping function. Here’s what you need to know if you’re still scratching your head.
First of all, you need to have finished the demo. If you’re new to FF7 Rebirth you really don’t need to worry about this. While you’re here, if you have data from Remake or the Intermission alongside the demo, don’t forget to let the game check for save data when you start. Additional goodies are involved! Anyway, as you get your Rebirth journey started and the Nibelheim stuff gets going, you’re probably wondering why you didn’t get the option to skip ahead.
How to Skip Nibelheim in FF7 Rebirth Chapter One
You’ll still get that option, but unfortunately, the presumption you get to skip the entire Nibelheim flashback is not how it actually goes down in practice. You still have to play the game all the way up to the opening credits. And there’s a decent chunk of video game in front of that. You won’t be prompted to skip chapter one in FF7 Rebirth until you get to the part when Cloud, Sephiroth, and Tifa first start running around in a wide-open space on the way to the Nibelheim reactor. Once you get to that part you’ll finally be prompted to skip ahead to the end of the flashback.
If you’re feeling disappointed don’t worry; you aren’t alone in the annoyance and confusion department. But to be fair, FF7 Rebirth is a massive game anyway, so what’s another hour on top of another 60, minimum? By the time you get spat out into the Grasslands and get your hands dirty gathering intel for Chadley, all of this foolishness will be behind you, probably. Final Fantasy VII is about having trouble letting go of grudges and memories, after all, so we understand.
