Pokemon GO Sizeable Surprises Event - All Bonuses, Encounters, and Raids

Pokemon of all sizes will appear aplenty over the course of this week.

From the tiniest Flabébé to the might of the towering Eternatus, the Pokemon series boasts over 1,000 creatures of various sizes that inhabit a number of different, unique ecosystems. And to start the second month of Pokemon GO's World of Wonders season, players are getting a closer look at just how different the sizes of even two Pokemon of the same species can be with the Sizeable Surprises event, starting on April 4 and ending April 9.

Throughout the week, players will notice increased spawns of Pokemon that are known to be rather tall, and others that are so small they're barely visible. Players will even notice a bigger size varation among these Pokemon than usual thanks to higher chances to find them in their XXS and XXL sizes, which are often pivotal for winning PokeStop Showcases. These Pokemon won't just be in the overworld—they'll be saturating the Raid lineup and Field Research tasks, complete with the debut of Shiny Wimpod in the mobile title.

Keeping with the ongoing otherworldly theme of the World of Wonders season, Ultra Beasts will one more be making an appearance in our world through the use of mysterious Ultra Wormholes. For players in the Northern Hemisphere, the Ultra Beast infiltrating Gyms is Kartana, the Grass and Steel Type that only stands at a foot tall. Meanwhile, Celesteela—a Steel and Flying Type Ultra Beast—is landing in the Southern Hemisphere at over 30 feet tall.

Here's a breakdown of the ginormous bonuses and encounter pool that players can look forward to during the relatively-short event duration.

Celesstela resembles a rocket ship made of bamboo.Kartana is a small origami-themed being with razor-sharp arms and legs.

Pokemon GO Sizeable Surprises Event Bonuses

Though some of the Pokemon players stumble upon during the Sizeable Surprises event may be small, the bonuses provided are certainly not. All players will be eligible for double catch XP for catching Pokemon with nice, great, or excellent throws during the event duration, which can be increased further if players have an active Lucky Egg. This can be particularly useful for players struggling with the grind past trainer level 40 which, on top of tremendous amounts of XP, requires the completion of several tasks at each level.

The increased chances to find XXS and XXL Pokemon, while not impacting their gameplay potential in any way, will coincide with ongoing themed PokeStop Showcases that can reward additional items depending on the Pokemon submitted compared to others. For those uninterested in showing off their finds, however, they can partake in a new event-themed Collection Challenge that rewards different types of Berries and an encounter with Wimpod.

Wimpod is a tiny blue and purple shellfish Pokemon.

Pokemon GO Sizeable Surprises Event Encounters

Most of the wild encounters during this event feature tiny Pokemon, with the larger Pokemon being a bit more rare—opposite from what most may think.

Though none of these Pokemon are particularly rare, many of their final evolutions are valuable assets in Raids and PvP experiences. Wimpod in particular is one of the few Pokemon that requires 400 Candies to evolve, making this event a great opportunity for players to finally add a Golisopod to their collections.

Notably, Shiny Wailmer will appear with increased rates during the event duration, with the rate reverting to normal when the event concludes.

  • Increased wild spawns: Diglett, Mantine, Wailmer, Joltik, Tynamo, Cutiefly, Wimpod, Cetoddle
    • Rare wild spawns:  Onix, Snorlax

A number of these Pokemon will also be rewards for completing event-themed Field Research, though through this they are guaranteed to possess better stats than finding them randomly in the wild.

  • Event Field Research encounters: Onix, Snorlax, Wailmer, Tynamo, Cutiefly, Wimpod

Pokemon GO Sizeable Surprises Event Raids

It's Raids where the disparities in Pokemon heights really come into play for the Sizeable Surprises event. On top of Kartana and Celesteela headlining five-star Raids, other Pokemon that are not set to appear through other means will be featured in one and three-star Raids.

Players should keep in mind that, as part of the ongoing bonuses coinciding with the World of Wonders season, additional XP is granted for completing Raids of lower tiers. Many of the Pokemon in these specific event Raids are rather elusive under normal circumstances, so this could be a great time to grow a collection for battles.

  • One-star Raids: Foongus, Klink, Espurr, Tadbulb
  • Three-star Raids: Alolan Exeggutor, Galarian Weezing, Gyarados, Snorlax
  • Five-star Raids: Celesteela (in the Southern Hemisphere), Kartana (in the Northern Hemisphere)
  • Mega Raids: Mega Charizard X
