Nintendo and The Pokemon Company held another Pokemon Presents showcase this morning, and it actually gave us a pretty substantial look at how the two plan to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary on the video game side. You know, beyond Post Malone virtual concerts and a Hootie and the Blowfish cover.

New Pokemon Snap
After a nostalgic, chronological montage showing the long, 25-year history of the games, anime, card games, and every peripheral in between, we saw a new look at New Pokemon Snap. Along with meeting the cast that will guide you through your nature photography journey, the showcase included some new gameplay footage that basically confirms it’s almost the same game as the Nintendo 64 original. Just prettier. Using the Switch’s online compatibilities, you’ll be able to share photos you take with the game’s community. Which seems to curate things and let you upvote photos. Just what we all need. Another platform to give us notification serotonin.
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl
Motherfuckers, we’re going back to Sinnoh. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are remakes of the original Nintendo DS games coming in 2021, and they pretty much look just like them but updated. These don’t have the same art style as recent games like Sword & Shield, and instead uses the same chibi look from the DS era of Pokemon. Pokemon Legends: Arceus
This is a pretty different take on the Pokemon series, and is set in an open world Sinnoh before the establishment of the region we know today. It will feature Oshawatt, Cyndaquil, and Rowlet as starters, and involve Arceus, the creator of the Pokemon universe. It looks like a whole-ass Pokemon: Breath of the Wild. It’s being handled internally at Game Freak while the Diamond & Pearl remakes are being developed by ILCA. Which, honestly means both games might get an appropriate level of care because Game Freak doesn’t have to handle both. It will launch on Switch in 2022.

Tomorrow, February 27, R&B singer Post Malone is holding a virtual concert in celebration of the Pokemon 25th anniversary, as part of an ongoing music initiative The Pokemon Company is putting on this year. Katy Perry is involved somehow, but we’ve yet to hear any musical contribution from her just yet.
