Smash Ultimate is the latest entry in an iconic series. And few characters in Nintendo’s crossover franchise are as iconic as Captain Falcon. Odds are that a lot of folks won’t even recognize the hero of the long-lost F-Zero franchise. But just about everyone that’s ever played Smash will recognize his signature battle cry anywhere.
Smash Ultimate sports 74 different playable characters at launch — including every single previous character from the super-franchise and a bunch of fresh faces. That’s not even including the glut of DLC fighters, assist trophies, and more. There’s so much that no one person could possibly keep track of everything. That’s why we’ve compiled a guide to every single character.

Captain Falcon isn’t just a recognizable fighter. He’s got some quick, powerful moves up his sleeve, as well. And many of them are more powerful in Smash Ultimate than ever.
According to Nintendo description of Captain Falcon…
A fighter that possesses both speed and power! But in exchange, he is frequently left open. Being able to successfully land his neutral special, Falcon Punch, can greatly influence the battle in multiplayer matches.
Captain Falcon Moves
Falcon Punch (B) – Powers up for a moment then strikes with a flaming punch. Can change direction while charging.
Raptor Boost (Side + B) – Charges forward and hits foes with an uppercut. Can be used in midair to meteor foes downward.
Falcon Dive (Up + B) – Jumps up to grab foes then explodes to send them flying.
Falcon Kick (Down + B) – Slides forward with a flaming kick while on the ground and a diagonal kick in the air.
Blue Falcon (Final Smash) – The Blue Falcon races directly in front of the Captain, striking opponents and launching them to a race track where he can run them down.
Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
The basic, mechanical changes in Smash Ultimate wound up benefiting Captain Falcon a lot. You can’t run past enemies anymore, so it’s harder to whiff on his critical dash-grabs. Combos end up feeling a lot more natural, too, so it’s easier to snap out some series of strikes as the speedster.
Weaknesses
His issues remain the same, unfortunately. Recovery is tricky on the Captain, so offstage moments can feel a bit more dire than they do for other fighters. And look… we all love a good Falcon Punch, but maybe loudly and clearly telegraphing your biggest move isn’t a good idea. Just once, Captain Falcon should try yelling something else. Then again, “Definitely Not Falcon Punch” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.
Captain Falcon Outfits
It’s Captain Falcon! You probably know what the scarfed racer looks (and sounds) like at this point. If you need a reminder, though, we’ve got your back. That gold color scheme does look pretty snazzy, too.
And that’s all she wrote for now! Have fun Falcon PAAAWNCH-ing your way to victory. Hopefully. Just try not to overdo that very telegraphed move and you’ll be fine.
