Smash Ultimate has a lot more to offer than a fantastic single-player campaign. The competitive platform fighter is also chock full of fan service from Nintendo’s past. That includes some characters that you wouldn’t usually associate with the outwardly family friendly company.

Smash Ultimate sports 74 different playable characters at launch — including every single previous character from the super-franchise and a bunch of fresh faces. That’s not even including the glut of DLC fighters, assist trophies, and more. There’s so much that no one person could possibly keep track of everything. That’s why we’ve compiled a guide to every single character.

Today we’re talking about Bayonetta. The bullet-based witch works quite a lot like in her own video games. She has great range, thanks to her trademark pistols, and can even slow down opponents with a properly timed counter.

According to Bayonetta’s official Nintendo description…

An Umbra Witch who equips guns on her arms and legs, Bayonetta has mastered the beautiful but brutal Bullet Arts fighting style. She can even slow down her opponents with Witch Time!

Moves

Bullet Climax (B) – Quickly fires a volley from two guns. Can be charged for more power and extended by tapping the button.

Heel Slide / After Burner Kick (Side + B) – Slides across the ground (or diagonally in the air) with a speedy kick. Another kick is possible if it connects midair.

Smash Ultimate Bayonetta Moves

Witch Twist (Up + B) – Spins up into the air like a cyclone. A second twist is possible if combined with a midair jump.

Witch Time (Down + B) – Avoids an enemy attack and slows down time. The effect is reduced with repeated use.

Infernal Climax (Final Smash) – Bayonetta enters Witch Time and attacks foes to fill up her magic gauge. If she fills the gauge, she summons the demon Gomorrah, who attacks up to three opponents. Keep pressing the button to increase Gomorrah’s damage.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

The bane of Smash for Wii U players everywhere returns with her trademark flair. Bayonetta has received some much-needed downclocking and fits more into a solid niche, instead of supremely dominating the competition. She’s still an agile fighter with tricky reversals and combo potential, though. She doesn’t have too much trouble getting in and rocketing away with her After Burner Kicks.

Weaknesses

Bayonetta’s weaknesses are a little more pronounced this time around, however. She has less kill potential at higher damage ranges and her ground combat is superseded by more capable fighters. All of her specials have been taken down a notch as well. You’re gonna have to play to your strengths (and play smarter), because it’s easier to punish Bayonetta this time around.

Outfits

Besides basic color swaps, this fighter can alternate between her Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 appearances. This mostly manifests as a shorter hair style.
