Sea of Thieves A Pirate's Life Guide - How to Start A Pirate's Life Tall Tale

Seas of Thieves is getting its biggest and most exciting update yet. Tied in with Season 3, the new “A Pirate’s Life” update will see this swashbuckling world cross swords with Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. Not only will this season revolve around a brand new storyline, but it will introduce a host of changes to the game’s world. Along with new story content, players can complete challenges tied to the new Tall Tales. But if you want to do any of this, you’ll need to first locate the Sea of the Damned. Here’s how to start the new A Pirate’s Life Tall Tale in Season 3.

How to Start A Pirate’s Life

When you load up Sea of Thieves you will see a new tab that says “A Pirate’s Life.” Contrary to what this might say, selecting this will not automatically begin the new content. Instead, it will start you at a random outpost where you can interact with the new Castaway NPC. Speaking to her will give you access to the five different Tall Tale books beside her, but only one will be available right away. Approach the book on the far left by the glowing lantern and vote to begin this Tall Tale. If you have multiple crew members you will need a majority vote to begin this quest.

Upon starting the Tall Tale, you will get a new storybook that sheds some light on the lore of this quest. Near the back of the book, a page will make reference to a large gateway and a bright green light. This is where you will need to sail too. For whatever reason, the green light may not appear right away so hang out by your ship until you see it in the sky. Having started this quest twice in two different outposts, the general location of the gate appears to change. The first one was by a rock archway near the Hidden Spring Keep, with the second one located south of this area.

Once you see the green light, sail towards it until you see a big gate filled with green energy. Sailing into it will force you out of the main world state and into your own private server tied exclusively to the new content. This means once you cross the threshold into the Sea of the Damned you won’t need to worry about other players attacking your ship. Keep in mind, you cannot bring loot into this new story content so make sure to sell everything first before you head into this area. You won’t really need any supplies, at least for the first Tall Tale, so don’t worry about restocking your boat.

You’ll know the story content has begun when your screen fades to black and then you are sailing on a very spooky ocean filled with ghosts. I won’t spoil anything beyond that, but if you want all the Commendations I already have a guide detailing the five hidden journals in the new Sailor’s Grave location.
