How to Evolve Milcery Into Alcremie - Pokemon Sword and Shield Sweets Guide

The most important part of any new Pokemon game is, well, the Pokemon themselves, and Pokemon Sword and Shield is no exception. There are 400 pocket monsters to collect in the Galar region, each with different combinations of types, move sets, IVs, and EVs. It’s a creature’s design that will endear it to the public the most, however. Sword and Shield boast several standout Pokemon designs, and many will only evolve if certain conditions are met. One of the new monsters is called Milcery, an milk-based creature that evolves into the whipped cream-themed Alcremie, but only if you take some specific steps. In this guide, we’ll explain where to catch Milcery and how to evolve it into Alcremie.

Where to Catch Milcery

There are two places where you can catch a Milcery in Sword and Shield: the Wild Area and Route 4. Catching one along Route 4 is definitely the easier method, but both options are completely viable. Here’s a rundown of how to catch this elusive Pokemon.

Route 4

You’ll first encounter Milcery along Route 4 between Galar Mine and the town of Turffield, which is where your first gym battle will take place. It doesn’t appear on the main field screen, though. Instead, you’ll need to stalk around in the area’s tall grass and wait to engage in a surprise encounter. These are the battles you initiate by walking into an exclamation mark that’s accompanied by a rustling of the grass. Unlike the next method of catching a Milcery, you won’t have to wait for any particular weather conditions or time of day.

Wild Area

To catch a Milcery in the Wild Area, you’ll need to travel to either the Bridge Fields just northeast of Motostoke or to the Giant’s Mirror up near the entrance to Hammerlocke. Whichever spot you choose, though, you’ll have to wait for foggy weather, as this is the only time Milcery will show up in the Wild Area. Like in Route 4, it can only be found in a surprise encounter.

How to Evolve Milcery into Alcremie

In order to evolve Milcery into Alcremie, you’ll first need to acquire an item for it to hold. You’re going to need to find a sweet item, which you can earn at the battle cafes scattered around the Galar region. There are battle cafes in Motostoke, Hammerlocke, and Wyndon. You can challenge each cafe owner to a battle once a day, and winning gives you a chance at one of the sweets Milcery needs to evolve. Here’s a list of known sweets:

  • Strawberry Sweet
  • Ribbon Sweet
  • Clover Sweet
  • Berry Sweet
  • Flower Sweet
  • Love Sweet
  • Star Sweet

Once you get one of the sweets, give it to Milcery to hold in the menu. The next step is to perform Leon’s signature victory pose, which you can do by quickly rotating the left analog stick.  Doing so with the Milcery in your party—and while it’s holding the sweet—should trigger an evolution. The Alcremie you get is dependent on several factors: which direction you spin, how long your spin lasts, the time of day, and the sweet item the Milcery is holding. The sweet item Milcery is holding will change the style of decoration on top of Alcremie’s head. Here’s a breakdown of the different kinds of Alcremies available and how to get them:

  • Vanilla Cream – Spin clockwise during the day.
  • Ruby Cream – Spin clockwise for over five seconds during the day.
  • Matcha Cream – Spin clockwise during the night.
  • Lemon Cream – Spin clockwise for more than five seconds during the night.
  • Mint Cream – Spin counterclockwise for over five seconds during the night.
  • Salted Cream – Spin counterclockwise during the night.
  • Ruby Swirl – Spin counterclockwise for over five seconds during the day.
  • Caramel Swirl – Spin counterclockwise for over five seconds during the night.
  • Rainbow Swirl – Spin counterclockwise for over ten seconds at dusk.
