How to Evolve Clobbopus into Grapploct with Taunt TR - Pokemon Sword and Shield Clobbopus Guide

The most important part of any new Pokemon game is, well, the Pokemon themselves, and Pokemon Sword and Shield is no exception. There are 400 pocket monsters to collect in the Galar region, each with different combinations of types, move sets, IVs, and EVs. It’s a creature’s design that will endear it to the public the most, however. Sword and Shield boast several standout Pokemon designs, and many will only evolve if certain conditions are met. One of the new monsters is called Clobbopus, a fighting type that evolves into Grapploct. In this guide, we’ll explain where to find Clobbopus in Pokemon Sword and Shield, and explain the trick to making it evolve.

Where to Find Clobbopus in Pokemon Sword and Shield

Clobbobus and Grapploct are cephalopod-themed Pokemon modeled after an octopus. As such, you would be excused in thinking that you can find them in the water. While this is true for Grapploct, Clobbopus is another story. Both of these Pokemon can be found in the wild along the same route, but Clobbopus is located in the tall grass rather than in the water.

You’re going to want to go to Route 9 to find these two Pokemon. The area is south of the town of Circhester, and encompasses both a water and land stretch. When you first arrive at Route 9, you’ll meet the guy who gave you your Rotom Bike. Chase off the two Team Yell grunts harassing him and he’ll upgrade your bike so that it can travel on water. This allows you to progress further along Route 9, and opens up some new parts of the Wild Area.

Once you have the ability to travel over water, you can chase down some new Pokemon in the area. You’ll occasionally run across wild Grapplocts in Route 9, but completionists will definitely want to capture a Clobbopus and evolve it themselves. To find one, keep traveling south along Route 9 until you bypass the major water area and find yourself on solid land once more. You’ll start seeing Clobbopus wandering the field in the first patch of tall grass along this stretch.

How to Evolve Clobbopus into Grappleoct

Like many other new Pokemon in the Galar region, there’s a trick to evolving Clobbopus into Grapploct. That trick is this: level up your Clobbopus while it knows the move Taunt. There are a couple ways to teach your Pokemon Taunt.

Reach Level 35 With Clobbopus

Being a fighting type, Clobbopus learns a number of fighting moves naturally. This includes Rock Smash, Brick Break, Bulk Up, and Submission. It also includes Taunt, which Clobbopus learns at level 35. Once you learn the move, level it up once more to trigger its evolution into Grapploct.

Teach it Taunt With a TR

There exists a TR (a Technical Record) that contains the move Taunt. In order to get it, you must purchase it from a Watt trader in the Wild Area. There are several methods to farming for Watts, just in case you’re low on funds. Also, Watt trader’s inventory is randomized each day, so there is a significant element of luck involved in actually finding the TR.

Keep in mind that TRs are one-time use items, and disappear once you’ve booted them up. Be sure you’re ready to commit Taunt to Clobbopus.

And that’s where to find Clobbopus in Pokemon Sword and Shield, and how to evolve it into Grapploct. Did you get your tentacles on one? Let us know in the comments section!
