The boss of Hyper Light Drifter‘s eastern zone is probably the easiest boss to start with, and we recommend taking him on first. You won’t need any special upgrades to defeat him– our drifter does have chain dash unlocked, but you won’t necessarily need that to put Mr. Toad in the ground. He has a few obvious attack phases, including one where he throws bombs, one where he jumps and chases you around the map, and one where he barfs out exploding plant enemies. Your goal should be to avoid him as much as possible during the bomb and jumping phases, and focus all your attention on getting a plant enemy to damage him. If he’s hurt by one of his own exploding adds, he will enter an extremely long stun phase where you’re able to do a ton of damage. You can damage him pretty easily during some of the other phases, but you’ll do the most damage when he’s flat on his face.
