One of the big changes for Destiny 2’s new Season of the Chosen is the replacement of weekly vendor bounties. Instead, your quests tab has a new hub for new Seasonal Challenges. For the first ten weeks of each season, Bungie will be adding new weekly quests via this new system in an effort to make up for the lost XP and Bright Dust rewards. In this guide, we’ll be looking at the Destiny 2 Season 13, Week 6 challenges and offering some tips for fast completion.
How Do These New Challenges Work?
The new weekly challenges work about how you’d expect them to. Each week, Bungie will be adding more though there won’t be a specific number of challenges each time. You have until the end of the season to complete them, so no worries if you’re not keeping up with the progression as you go. In fact, waiting makes it a bit easier to complete the whole thing faster as you can earn progress across multiple challenges at once.
Completion Tips
For the fastest possible completion, we recommend completing the playlist requirements first.
- Ignore the Grandmaster Nightfall: The Ordeal for now. It gives a lot of XP, but you don’t need to rush getting to 1325 Power.
- You can make progress towards several of the challenges if you use a submachine gun when killing Fallen and Cabal.
- Trinity Ghoul and Ticuu’s Divination are great for getting bow kills.
Contender’s Ascent VI
Report to the War Table in the HELM and complete the Challenger’s Proving VI quest. Then defeat Cabal using a Bow.
Rewards: XP, War Reputation, Empress Lore Chapter, Imperial Needle Legendary Bow
Another story quest that requires you to go through the same song and dance you have throughout the season. The only different part involves you using a bow against Cabal enemies. I personally like using either Trinity Ghoul or Ticuu’s Divination here since they can kill multiple enemies at once and require very little skill to actually use. A good spot to farm Cabal is the Excavation Site XII Lost Sector in the Firebase Hades patrol area on the EDZ.
Small-Caliber Contender
Defeat combatants using a Submachine Gun. Battlegrounds missions grant the most efficient progress.
Rewards: XP
The submachine gun will be your core weapon if you’re looking to complete this week’s challenges. While getting submachine gun kills is very easy, you can actually use this weapon while making progress towards other challenges like Nightfall Variety Attack and Once Chosen, Now Fallen. The best legendary submachine guns currently available are the Extraordinary Rendition and Ikelos SMG. If you want to use an exotic weapon then Riskrunner will be your go-to choice. But this can be a little tricky to get precision kills with, so you may have some trouble if you’re also trying to complete the Once Chosen, Now Fallen challenge.
Nightfall Variety Attack
Defeat combatants using Sniper Rifles, Submachine Guns, Rocket Launchers, or Bows in Nightfall: The Ordeal.
Rewards: XP
Completing this is all about maximizing your current loadout so that you’re always making progress towards this challenge. Thankfully, this can completed on any difficulty of Nightfall: The Ordeal, so don’t worry if you haven’t spent a lot of time grinding your Power level. My personal recommendation is to use the Izanagi’s Burden, Ikelos SMG, and Code Duello. These are some of the best weapons in the meta right now, plus they will all gain you progress towards completing this challenge! If you don’t want to use a sniper or rocket launcher, then just utilize a submachine gun or bow as your primary weapon.
Cabal Contenders
Defeat Elite or Boss Cabal anywhere in Battlegrounds missions
Rewards: XP, War Table Reputation
You will naturally unlock this by just playing the Battlegrounds playlist. The only tip you need for this is to make sure to shoot every yellow bar Cabal at least once to ensure that they count towards your progress. It’s an easy challenge that shouldn’t take too long given how many Elite and bosses are thrown at you.
Once Chosen, Now Fallen
Calibrate weapons against the Fallen. Earn bonus progress for precision final blows.
Rewards: Double XP, Bright Dust
Oh look at that, this week’s Nightfall: The Ordeal is Fallen themed, who would have guessed. For this step I strong urge you to just complete this in the Nightfall: The Ordeal playlist while using a submachine gun. It will save you some time and help you make progress towards other weekly challenges. If you don’t feel like doing Nightfalls, then the Widow’s Walk, The Weep, and Terminus East Lost Sectors in the EDZ are good spots to kill these aliens. Just make sure to always go for precision kills!
Kill Them With Style
Earn the Pyretic Ornament for the Salvager’s Salvo Grenade Launcher.
Rewards: Double XP, Bright Dust
To complete this step you will need to first earn the Salvager’s Salvo grenade launcher. This quest is handed out by Banshee-44 in the Tower and is remarkably straightforward. Upon obtaining this weapon, you can then get the Crucible Salvager quest from Shaxx which rewards the Pyretic ornament upon completion. You will need a total of 6 Valor Ranks and 30 Heavy Grenade Launcher kills to unlock this ornament. The first is pretty easy since it just involves playing Crucible and earning Valor experience. If you’ve been keeping up with Destiny 2 every week, there’s a good chance this step is done.
As for the grenade launcher kills, you will want to either camp the Power Brick spawn points or play the Mayhem mode. The former requires a bit of patience, but you should have an easier time getting grenade launcher kills. The latter is more chaotic, but the frequency of Heavy ammo makes launching grenades at people much easier. I always like using The Colony for this since it tracks enemies and can easily wipe out some of the more mobile classes.
Conquest of the Mighty
Complete any Nightfall: The Ordeal on Grandmaster difficulty.
Rewards Quadruple XP, Bright Dust
Coinciding with this difficulty’s release, anyone who completes a Grandmaster Nightfall will automatically complete this challenge and earn a mountain of experience. For the unfamiliar, these are the most difficult PVE activities in the game, simply due to the sheer stopping power and modifiers implemented. While the activity is set at 1350 Power, you can only participate if you’re 1325. No Power beyond this will improve your chances, as the “Contest” modifier is active. Grandmaster Nightfalls are insanely difficult and will require you to have a pre-made team to even compete. I only suggest going for this challenge if you are very confident in your PVE skills and have a solid build together for your Guardian.
